broke the straw hat (that I bought a few years back specifically because most summer hats arenāt large enough to fit my noggin) a bit whilst on holibobs; hoping this will hold up and not let it break further.
50% fine Merino wool + 50% British Longhair cat fur, mostly sport weight, 4.5yds/4.1m, .1oz/3g
my final project for my first year at uni!!
handmade doll based around mythological / fantasy birds, character design, and medieval fashion and sewing techniques. entirely hand embroidered and hand sewn, with an interior wire armature for support - around 48 hours in the making done over the course of a week (not including the whole terms worth of research, design, pattern drafting and prototypes)
now that iāve gotten over the stress of making her time, i can say how insanely proud of her i am. i made that!!
additional photos (with some sillier ones under the cut)
Crafters hubris doesnāt usually hit me this hard, but yesterday I saw this English Paper Piecing pattern by PorcupineSewsThreads and thought to myself āI can make thatā despite epp not being one of my disciplines.
Well, over 24 hrs later and weāre done ⨠itās not perfect but I am satisfied.

Sculptural works created from translucent polyester fabric.
Another reject star for this quilt! It's cute, but I think I want something bigger for the last one. I save the rejects and extras and whenever possible sneak them into other quilts. This quilt has several repurposed blocks and partial blocks, in fact. I kind of like the way this quilt looks upside down! It's giving me ideas. Maybe for something on a light background with a sun at the top and flowers. Or bugs. Or both. Huh. I'm going to think about that. With two quilts nearly done the piecing stage it's time to set myself up for the next piecing project. This particular quilt will go right to basting and quilting, but the other one gets applique, which will take a bit longer.
Sometimes, in order to not succumb to the ā I gotta MAKE something [of my] today!ā feeling, you gotta do something that has literally no value but makes you happy.
Everyoneās crabby because itās too hot to be gardening/moving boxes/running to the tip but not me, Iām gluing pretty paper scraps together.
being an everything crafter is great but also sucks. like i want to get my watercolors out but i need to put away my microcrochet first. i want to do some leatherwork but my oil paints are on the table. i want to whittle but i'm using the bucket i catch wood shavings in to hold my papermaking mush. i want to write my book but my hands are too busy knitting a sweater. i want to code another video game but i'm too busy studying nalebinding. do you see my problem. the problem is that i need more hands
MORE HANDS
So Iām knitting socks and I found a base pattern I like. Would it be wrong for me to find color work work ups and just apply them to the base pattern that I enjoy using and make adjustments based on the stitch count for the base pattern? Like, does that work? Or am I breaking knitting rules doing that?
Tale as old as time; you start with one hole and you think, oh yeah, I can darn that, no problem.
But beware! Hidden dangers! There may be more!
Curse the dreaded moth!!!
Complete ran out of steam. I know there are more, or at least there are a lot of vulnerable threads in this 40+ year old wool beret that was my mumās before it was mine, but I might just have to reinvest in some felting needles and felt all the other bits because thereās only so much a girl can take.
Thereās a show coming up, and I think Iām going to be able to eke this thing out in time to enter it!
You can probably see some lighter spots of the red; that is from where I scratched some away in order to neaten up some lines. They should even out once fired.
We made it!
Back home.
Finished the duplicate stitch on my Tunisia holiday socks. Embroidered symbols of Tanit, the Punic goddess associated with wisdom, crafts, the moon and defending the home.
I find duplicate stitch laborious but still 10x better than colourwork (my tension gets so screwy) and Iāve learnt that maybe if I do the STH again I should make the foot of the sock maybe half an inch smaller to accommodate how two repeats is deep enough but does not achieve the 90 degree angle one usually gets with a heelā¦
All in all though the socks are comfy and were around my 2week mark from start to finish. Once I got past the toe, the shorties were very satisfying to use too; and no jog/join marks on either sock this time!
Here are some other symbols of Tanit I got to see in the Bardo Museum.
Last night in Tunisia and weāve turned the Sweet Tomato heel and visited the first Hard Rock Cafe in North Africa.
... I may be a bit obsessed with adding beads to my knitting š³
Look all inclusive cocktails are super dangerous especially when your sister encourages you to start drinking at noon but I am flying through the soles of this sock
