Since 1995, Anna Wintor has enlisted the help of celebrities to co-chair the Met Gala. Beyonce, SJP, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and more have all co-chaired the gala. But this year, Anna tapped the next Generation. Gen Z: Timothee Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman, and Naomi Osaka
TIMOTHEE CHAMALET at the Met Gala 2021 on September 13th wearing HAIDER ACKERMANN and CONVERSE
When I think of Timothee Chamalet, I think of one of the best TikToks of all time ("Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, All Men are Trash, except for me and Timothee Chamal-egu“).
Since Timothee was a co-chair, I was expecting a little bit more from his look. I like the idea that he wanted to combine the structured top half with the more casual sweatpants and converse bottoms. My biggest issue, which isn't visible due to his pose, is that the look made his torso look abnormally long. He looked very disproportional.
BILLIE EILISH at the Met Gala 2021 on September 13th wearing OSCAR DE LA RENTA
I think that Billie looks absolutely beautiful, however the most important part of her outfit is arguably the impact it had. Billie only agreed to wear Oscar de la Renta if they ceased using fur. Which is pretty cool.
Billie definitely gives me major Marilyn Monroe vibes. I loved the fullness of her dress as well as the cover. I also just wanted to really shoutout Billie. She's come out recently and said how she's feeling more comfortable in her skin and has been dressing differently than she has the past few years. I don't think people always recognize the influence celebrities have over regular people. Billie shows that you can change and evolve and be comfortable in your skin and wear what you want. I'm excited to see her continue to express herself as she continues to get older.
AMANDA GORMAN at the Met Gala 2021 on September 13th wearing VERA WANG
As a whole, I really liked the outfit. While beautiful, I didn't find the dress to be anything spectacular. I think the way Amanda accessorized is really what made the outfit great. I loved the laurels in her hair in addition to the bun/ braid hair-do she had. I think the book-shaped clutch is super cool and can really see how the statue of liberty influenced the outfit.
NAOMI OSAKA at the Met Gala 2021 on September 13th wearing LOUIS VUITTON designed by Nicholas and Ghesquiere and Mari Osaka
I think that this outfit is really amazing. It's weird and different in the best ways and I think Naomi really took the theme and ran with it. Her look paid tribute to her Haitian and Japanese heritage. Her sister, Mari, designed the turquoise pattern which I think is just really stunning. It incorporated koi fish in honor of her Japanese heritage. I found the whole look to be bold and really thought she looked great.
