So Edward never officially does it. It comes from this wonderful post by the brilliant @cockmcstuffins

You see, he never officially does it but it’s very on brand for Edward. So everyone just kind of went “yeah that’s 100% true Edward lives snails and using the word effervescent”

quick question since i've belatedly seen your ned facts post: in what book does it say his full first name is edward? i've read books 1-120 in the original mystery series and i know coleman was his middle name revealed in the scarlet slipper mystery but i'm totally blanking on what book his full name is revealed in??

Hi! Ned revealed his name as Edward in The Invisible Intruder(49)

I checked the book it’s page 99 after Ned gets kidnapped, then escapes, and calls Nancy. Nancy uses their super special “I’m being held hostage and they’re trying to use me against you” code that she apparently devised with Ned. They only use this once even though Ned is kidnapped twice after this but what can you do.

The code is she asks his full name. If it’s all good and he’s free he says his name is Edward Emerson. Even though Ned can be used for any “Ed” name now, in the past it was more common. Don’t quote me on that.

Also if he’s not free he says he doesn’t give his middle name out to people.
