Use a Magic Marker to Keep Your Cards In Order
There’s nothing worse than getting your cards mixed up.
You’ve carefully written out your program on graph paper. You’ve examined each line carefully, making sure none of your lines are over 80 characters long. You’ve waited in line to get access to a keypuncher. And then you’ve run the cards through a line printer and found several cards that need to be repunched. Eventually, you’ve got all your cards right, and you’re carrying your stack of hundreds of cards to the computer building for entry into the system input interface. Everything is great.
But then some jock from the football team, clearly not looking where he’s going, barrels into you, sending cards flying everywhere! Now it will take hours to reassemble the program, and you’ll miss your deadline. If only there was a way to speed up program reassembly!
There is. Take a magic marker and draw a diagonal line across the top of your deck. Now if your cards get scrambled, you can quickly and easy reassemble the cards by using the diagonal line as a guide.
Trust me, it’s a lifesaver.
