WIP I’ve had for a long while
The Elvish peoples descended from the forces of nature itself. Incredibly talented in focusing the arcane and many notable ancient scholars were elves. It is unknown where elves came from as they have no lineage through evolution but are believed to have descended from humans that tapped into a force so powerful that it changed them and their descendants fundamentally.
Qetzli (Dragon Elves) - Qetzli represent the arcane element of Heat. Closely related to drakes, the Qetzli share many characteristics with their draken cousins with the exception of wings as an extra appendage. They have leathery skin and patterns of scales similar to alligators and typically a pair or crown of horns. Lineages of Qetzli also follow the species of sentient dragons with changes to typical skin shades and horn shapes. Their complexion can be across the entire rainbow. With their leathery skin, the Qetzli are immune to contact with extreme temperatures that are hazardous to other beings. There are records that fire-based lineages have been able to withstand temperatures of above 400 Celsius without any pain or burns, but most tend to draw the line at 150-190 Celsius before feeling any pain.

Arboriani (Forest) - Arboriani represent the arcane element of existence. Most Arboriani find city life to be suffocating, tending to mingle in small towns far into the wilds and countryside, incredibly in tune with their surroundings and possibly the most superstitious of any race. It’s no wonder since the Arboriani have a link with nature that no other could compete. It’s best that what they can see is unknown to the rest. Beasts and entities far beyond any human’s concept of perception are glimmers of auras hiding behind trees and street lamps to the Arboriani. Nearly every urban legend spawned from the gossip of Arboriani communities. Some mages can even see the lingering fog of death around those who’s time is limited. Others that brave the cities are known for their craftiness and agility to slip through alleys unseen. Rats and insects guide them through the underbelly to hide from the horrors that dwell within. Other are employed as smugglers or other more unsavory jobs that need the sixth sense to avoid detection. There is a large business in monster-hunting that Arboriani are commonly trackers for.

Meriani (Ocean) - Meriani represent the arcane element of moisture. With amphibian-like qualities, Meriani have adaptive lungs/gills that can switch between land and water. Most stay to fresh water but exposure training can allow for Meriani to breathe in salt water. Webbing only lies to their elongated, frog-like feet as their hands remain dexterous for grabbing. Most aquatic movement is made with their thick and buoyant tails but cannot maintain speed. Without proper fins, Meriani use their energy to force the water around them to move them along, like personal jet streams. Body patterns typically reflect the environment they were born rather than direct lineages, reflecting colors and patterns of aquatic /amphibian creatures in the region. Most families will pilgrimage to previous birthplaces so that their children will reflect similar patterns.
Older than all other races, humans are the middle man of the physical world. Evolving from apes and harnessing the arcane long before elves had appeared. Humans have mastered technology and there are none better technicians and inventors than the subterranean darmans. Being the first of all subtypes of sentient beings, humans (and darmans) are the most widespread race across the globe.
Darman (Dwarf) - Distinctive in their short stature, stout build, and elongated earlobes the Darmans are the technologically advanced sibling to the standard human. They have a knack of imbuing magic into inorganic substances and machinations and being the pioneers of arcaneology (the practice of imbuing technology with magic to enhance it). Pure and Half-blooded Darmans have an inherent understanding of how the forces that create magic interact with the world and use it to their advantage.
In the turn of the century, genetics had taken a leap into what was possible. Early results of this new technology paved the path for many ethical laws regarding the practice of modifying genetics. Most are a combination of humans and other DNA gathered from animals called Genetically Modified Sentient Beings. Many types of GMSB exist but are sterile at birth, the only races considered “Heritage GMSB” or “HGMSB” are those that have reproduced for more than a few generations and not lost fertility. The idea for GMSBs were developed during the resource crisis when creating machines and fuel was waning. Instead of creating machines to assist humans, what if humans were already adapted to specific environments where certain machines aren’t needed and less resources can be wasted.
Centaur - Centaurs were an attempt to create a beast of burden with the high intelligence and stamina of a human for long distance travel into the uninhabitable areas where vehicles could not traverse. Scientists dug deep into the Greek mythos to create most of their GMSBs, the most obvious of them being the centaur. Multiple failed attempts lead to the common Centaur with the torso of a human and the body of a equine. The creation of this lineage of HGMSB remains under great scrutiny as the form of this body is not suited for the bipedal society it was created for and led to many issues revolving around the comfort and freedoms such people have. There’s a high population of centaurs in rural communities as their beast of burden work help with tending to the fields.

Need a distraction from finals looming around the corner so here’s a WIP on some concepts while I redesign an old OC. Haven’t planned out her full story but here’s something…
Due to an autoimmune disease caused by a virus outbreak, this character “Delta” lost her primary feathers permanently. She was lucky enough to participate in a clinical trial of prosthetic bionetics made specifically for her species (yet to be retcon named). It took a lot of surgeries growing up but they work well enough to glide but not so much taking off from the ground. The cybernetics were a cosmetic implant surgery later on to hide the surgical scars of the original prosthetic implants. The nodes also act as ports to service the prosthetics and Delta can change the color of the webbing as she pleases. More efficient models and therapies have come out in the decades after the outbreak, but Delta is happy to NOT go through that arduous process again (and the fact it would set her a million in medical debt).
Delta works as the lead ship technician in Kai’s crew and keeps the rust bucket in the air. She dabbles in all sorts of tinkering but mechanical is where her degree is. Delta also is the one that mods the other two’s (Gaitemis and Kai) variety of weapons for travel out in the wastes.
