TTS/RTA Ask meme! - 1, 7, 16, & 22

1. What was your favorite moment from the finale?

Literally, every time Varian was onscreen I was internally squealing. But definitely my favorite moment was the interaction between Eugene and Varian talking about Quirin. Varian’s defensiveness felt so real and raw, and I wish that we had been given more angsty/emotional moments like those in the episode.

7.  Do you have any post-series headcanons?

With the help of Lance and Varian, Eugene uses his power as Captain of the Guard to completely reform the criminal justice system. All three of them know what it’s like on the inside and are capable of actually reforming the prisoners rather than simply leaving them to rot-- a very Coronan philosophy to have, I’d say.

Also, they hire a new wanted poster artist. Or just buy the old guy some decent glasses.

16. What’s an episode plot that you wish we’d gotten to see?

OMIGOSH, I WISH that we had gotten to see more of Varian’s time with the Saporians. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO INTERESTING. Even just one or two episodes featuring Varian & Andrew’s jailbreak and takeover of the kingdom. If we had gotten a deeper look into Andrew’s manipulation of Varian and Varian’s growing feelings of guilt, that would have made his redemption arc so much more satisfying.

22.  Do you have any favorite AUs?

This is by no means a comprehensive list, but...

10. What is a minor change that you would make to the canon?

TBH I have a lot of things I would have liked to change lmao... but as for a minor one...?

I would take out some of the movie call back lines. I mean some of them were SO unnecessary and IMO a little cringey. Especially when Cass would word for word quote Gothel and its like.. ok we GET IT, do you honestly have to spell it out for us? Lol...

11. What is a major change (rewrite) that you would make to the canon?

Whew im glad i got asked this too! Ok obviously I’m gonna focus on Varian lol. I would have tied him into the main plot more. In fact, I might have even swapped his and Cassandra’s roles almost. If Cass had been the villain in season 1 (like it had come out she was gothels daughter and stuff) but she and Rapunzel worked through it and their friendship became stronger in spite of the fact, I would have loved that much more. And then it would let Varian have more of a role in the main plot... I will stand by moon!Varian till I die tbh. It made much more sense to me that he is connected to the moonstone in an almost paralleled version to Rapunzel. So I would have rewritten the entire thing apparently LMAO 😅

14. What merchandise for the series would you have liked to see?

Oh gosh... anything with Varian LOL! AND more Cass because I do love her too... But tbh, I kinda like the fan merch better than what I think Disney would have come out with (personally). Disney would market their merchandise to kids most likely, and sometimes they just have really generic depictions of the characters.. But the fan merchandise is like ARTISTIC! It’s more geared to what we like in the fandom, and less to what kids would like. Nothing wrong with that, its just my taste!

21. If you’re a content creator, what is your favorite piece of content you’ve made for TTS?

Aaaaaah I love this one!! Gosh I had so much fun making ALL my art for the fandom, in fact some of my favorites I didn’t even post because they’re not finished lmao... And seriously I will never get bored of drawing Varian, he’s so so much fun to draw. But probably my favorite thing I’ve published so far is my fan comic “Proud of You”! Especially that cover page.. I have it as my lock screen saver.. lol. I’m really excited to tell that story and its really fun, despite how much work it is!

I really like your designs for the villain!Varian AU, and the whole thing with him being a pirate but still an alchemy nerd gives a sort of steampunk vibe to the whole thing (imho). Very nice! My question then (because I love Ruddiger to pieces!) is does Ruddiger have a specific role as part of the crew (in addition to being Varian's animal companion)? Does he pull off small-scale thefts when need be? What does the rest of the crew think of him? What does Ruddiger think about the whole thing?

I strongly believe Varian is the perfect representation of Steampunk and I am glad people can see it in my art. (I might have considered the idea of him making his ship a kind of flying machine but I am not 100% sure, but boy wouldn’t that be steampunk as heck?)

Now to answer your question. Ruddiger might not be exactly happy with the decisions Varian has taken but he is loyal to the boy and is not about to leave him (specially because he still believes this “child” can be saved).

He does go in small stealing missions, mostly slipping into castles or mansions to open doors or get the keys for the pirates, simple stuff, but he only does it when absolutely necessary.

He is only loyal to Varian, he stays with the captain and protects him, the rest of the crew is divided, some of them like the little beast and often feed him part of their rations, other just don’t really care, like they don’t go out of their way to interact with it, what everyone knows is that you do not mess with the raccoon unless you want to find yourself at the end of the captain’s sword. And at the same time you don’t mess with the captain or you’ll get a face of snarling angry fur trying to scratch your eyes out.

They’re way too overprotective of the other.

So apparently the way to spell Rud(d)iger's name varies between the books, Wiki, and official iTunes subtitles. So...idk? Perhaps someone from the official TTS crew could give us an answer.

I asked @cnotes some time ago. It’s Ruddiger. (Which is also how @kritterart spells it).
