Do you think Zhan Tiri kept her distance from Varian because he reminded her so much of Demanitus that it made her wary? Like the only reason Corona wasn't destroyed by Varian initially was because of magic, something he didn't really devote himself to studying. If he ever did? Kid would somehow get even scarier.

Zhan Tiri definitely knew that. I feel he was a manipulation candidate when he had his villain arc, but the more she studied him the more she could only see a younger version of her old friend. Like:

(I knowww vat7k isn't technically canon but Varian's staff is so cool. And he would absolutely have that if he could.) Uncanny parallels. She took one look at that and went NOPE I'M KEEPING HIM AS FAR AWAY FROM MY PLOT AS POSSIBLE. And she was smart for that.

She had him translate the scrolls and that was IT. She was taking noooo chances with the genius this time around, he might've been on board with her at first if she found him after the storm, but she was not risking a betrayal a second time. And he would've backed out, for sure. Varian didn't actually want to hurt anyone, he was just in pain and justifiably angry.

The less he understood, the better, because lets face it. Varian came up with the amber gun with little understanding of magic and how the moon stone worked. If he ever started to study both magic and alchemy like Demanitus (as in, if Zhan Tiri ever tried to give him any sort of tutelage for being on her side) I pale at the thought of what he could do.

Anyways, just thoughts, observations, interpretations, and headcanons.

Tangled the series the show that you are

Compelling characters, including ones original to the series not shown in the original movie. Characters I would dare say have fandoms almost bigger then the actual Disney Princess who was meant to be the main character

Those same compelling characters' arcs either being relentlessly cruel (Varian) or poorly done (Cass)

Being a cartoon where you can tell corporate mandated lessons but somehow the guy who did the most damage faced no consequences except a memory wipe

Interesting lore that they did almost nothing with

I almost want to say that's what makes it so fun to create fan content for though?

The other thing I write the most for, the Hatchetfield triology, I'm just smashing together my dollies basically. I don't have complaints with the series, I just have theories and ships and fun ideas.

For TTS, though, I feel like the overwhelming vibe of fanfics, especially about Cass, Varian, the Brotherhood, etc is 'then I'll do it myself'

They gave us building blocks and fumbled their tower so hard but the things inside were so endearing we can't just leave it be.

I just found out that these two characters share the same voice actor, and that fact is strange to me…

TTS rant (MY OPINION)

Varian won't be like Lord Demanitus because well, he had committed a lot not-so-great crimes even kidnapping Queen Arianna and encased his dad in an amber once...How would Demanitus react to his descendant and teenage prodigy like Varian, to well...be a vengeful scientist/criminal who kidnapped the queen of Corona and almost destroyed the kingdom. Zhan Tiri kept her distances from Varian because of him being a vengeful scientist!

Sooo, umm..It could be coincidences that Varian is a descendant of Lord Demanitus...Otherwise, a ancestor and a descendant won't be the same person...Rather the descendants act differently from their ancestors...Meaning that Varian acts not like Lord Demanitus.

That is my OPINION, you don't need to agree with what I'm saying.

I don’t know how many people care about the whole Demanitus, disciples, Zhan Tiri lore of TTS, but it was something my brain really latched on. Not in the way where it sat and festered and grew increasingly complex, unfortunately, but in the way where it will not leave my head.

I don’t think anyone really cares but they’re unironically so cool??? There’s so much unexplored lore and backstory there. Why didn’t Gothel become the spirit-adjacent beings that Tromus and Sugracha became? Was there some argument between the three that led them to split after they betrayed Demanitus? What even led them to betray Demanitus in the first place?

It is my personal headcannon that Demanitus took Gothel, Sugracha, and Tromus under his wing in their young teen years. Aka prime storytelling time, but anyways. This provides such an opportunity for them to learn from Demanitus and grow to have a loving bond and the three, and lead to a dramatic and tragic betrayal.

All this rambling is just me trying to say that I would KILL for a fanfic of the wholesome, lifelong lesson learning journey these four had together that slowly descends into a tragic, dramatic, dark betrayal and manipulation. This is coming from someone who barely reads fanfics anymore, like, that would just be so interesting.

I would totally write this up myself but I’m still focused on the v&t7k project. But who knows, maybe it’ll be a little side project? Who am I kidding, I have no time for that-

Totally see Lord Demanitus questioning why his reincarnation, his descendent is a criminal alchemist who almost destroyed Corona. His successor who one day would became the New Lord Demanitus is suddenly in the past a criminal and vengeful scientist, Lord Demanitus's name being tainted by the said-alchemist.
