Let’s talk coffee. I’ve been drinking it since elementary school days because my grandfather on my mother’s side introduced it to me. I’ve always had coffee with him at three in the afternoon when I wasn’t in school.
My favorite coffee is sourced locally, and from coffee farms in the lowlands. It’s cheap and available only in local markets. I learned that it’s a variety from Africa that was introduced to this country in the late 1700s by our colonists, probably for their own consumption. Yep, those white European dudes with a kingdom. Selfishly, this coffee is the one thing they did right, I just don’t know how many plants and animals were killed when it was introduced to our ecosystem.
Anyway. This coffee smells amazing! They say, it’s stronger and more acidic than other varieties, but I don’t know. Stronger, yes, but more acidic? I have drunk enough coffee and this one brewed never gave me acid reflux yet. They also say, it’s endangered due to low production and demand. Probably. But what I know is that these supposedly coffee lovers who are not drinking this one are missing a lot.
When the lone market stall that’s selling these coffee beans temporarily closed during the first month of quarantine, and I had to buy the ones from Starbucks? I cried sad tears. Starbucks coffee is burnt sludge compared to my favorite beans. French, Italian and Turkish coffees are excellent, but I’m going with my favorite coffee anytime, anywhere. It’s probably bias that’s talking.
I’m on a break, though, from this coffee variety because I’m trying these beans from the mountains. Local still. I’m finding that it’s milder in smell and in taste. My favorite coffee makes you cry when you smell it because you just gotta have it, but this one though? It’s like I need sugar to enhance its taste.
There are two more mountain varieties in this set that I ordered. I have yet to find how they taste compared to my favorite, and the other one I just tried. I’ll probably talk about them... or not. Depends on my mood.
Oh, happy day! I hope.
