A day in the life

I take a sip of my coffee and lean back in my chair as my coworkers trickle into the office. Noise levels rise, inane chatter fills the room. I open my eyes to see the same look of frustration and annoyance on the face of my supervisor.

I take another sip of my coffee, praying for the fortitude to make it through the day.

"What would you do without coffee?" my supervisor asks as chairs bang and laughter jars my brain.

"I don't know, but I'm guessing 25 to life." I roll my shoulders back as someone hands me the first stack of paperwork to check. The sloppy writing on the top page makes it clear that the work will be a shitshow to double-check.

My supervisor has her own stack of paperwork now that she is trying valiantly to ignore. "Only if you got caught."

"Without coffee, I would be." Gritting my teeth, I start in on the paperwork.

Time for another day of not letting myself be tempted to kill my coworkers.
