One of the fanfictions from COFIC, my COVID-19 fanfiction event to both provide a little extra entertainment while everyone is practicing social distancing and a thank you to all those on the front lines saving lives and a thank you to my financial supporters on Patreon ♥ I hope to publish a few of these fics on AO3 :)
Protip: Bombproof Your Castle
Summary: A defensive training exercise with the Lions turns into an impromptu game of baseball. And, well… the home run hitter is up to bat and the Castle of Lions did not skootchy-bootchy-back.
Story snippet:
“Your Lion is the shield, Hunk,” Shiro said kindly and patiently over the comms. “She’s meant to take a hit to protect others.” Lance smiled at that. “Let’s try it for a few minutes and if you don’t feel good we can take a break, all right?”
“Okay,” Hunk said quietly.
“Good,” and Lance could picture Shiro smiling. “All right then, Paladins, go!”
No one fired.
Someone stifled a laugh on the comms.
“Oh fuck it,” Pidge muttered.
Shiro’s response to that was swallowed up by the Green Lion’s canon fire and Hunk’s resulting yelp as he jerked the Yellow Lion sideways.
Pidge’s shot broke the spell though and they began to each fire off multiple blasts — high and low and all over the terrain — while the Yellow Lion stumbled her way around and through them and Hunk’s mutters of “oh no,” “oops” and “oh cheeseballs” sounded over the comms.
“Hunk, block!” Shiro shouted as another strike hit the Yellow Lion head on.
Hunk and Yellow let out a roar in tandem and swung in a half circle, tail flying, and it intercepted one of Keith’s strikes and shot it back at them, Keith’s “Whoah!” music to Lance’s ears as he and the Red Lion had to drop back down to the ground.
“Yeah, home run!” Lance whooped as it disappeared over the ridge.
A light bulb went off over his head.
