I love seeing fan art for Cantata! I love knowing that something I created has inspired others to be creative, as well. It’s something I never imagined being the recipient of. ❤️

What’s even better, and a first for me, is being inspired by fan art myself. I recently shared this piece of fan art by @kloudkween. It has a lovely imagining of Caelum and Unda at the bottom. Well, I wrote an entire scene out because of that. 😅 It’s just shy of 1k words I wrote in a flurry as soon as I got home from work.

It’s quite long so I’m putting it below the cut. Enjoy!

A sprinkle of cold water splatters across Aestus’s face, startling them out of their reverie. They blink and shake their head, then scowl at the young man laughing beside them.

“You had your head in the clouds, thoughtful one,” Caelum jokes, butting his shoulder against his friend’s. “Thinking about all the handsome newcomers coming over the next few days?”

“Pfft, says the flirty one,” Aestus quips, eyeing their old friend.

Caelum tosses his head back and laughs, though he doesn’t deny it. To their left, a couple of Iredicci women titter between themselves, their eyes tracking Caelum as he strides confidently beside Aestus.

Aestus and Caelum make their way to one of the drier fields on the outskirts of their accord. The summer had been unseasonably warm and dry, and the crops were in desperate need of a good rain. As the two strongest water attuned in the accord, only they had the ability to draw moisture from the air to make an adequate amount of rain.

With Ferragosto only a week away, the accord will need as many crops as possible for the feasting that will ensue. Ferragosto is a multi-day holiday, the only instance where multiple accords come together at once. The days ahead will be filled with rest and celebration, large communal meals, team sports, and of course, dancing.

And yes, it was also a time for flirting, carousing, and new love.

“I was thinking about the work ahead,” Aestus admits. “Travelers have already started to arrive. I’m concerned we won’t have enough food for everyone.”

“You worry too much, Aestus. You’re starting to sound like one of the elders,” Caelum teases. “Adagio, no accord will come empty-handed,” Caelum assures them. “There’s always more than enough food for all.”

Having reached the field, the two friends set to work. They raise their arms and begin singing in unison. Their combined song pulls the barest particles of moisture from the air, coalescing into two small clouds of rain hovering at the edges of their fingertips. The water falls gently against the dry crops, the earth soaking the drops up greedily.

Suddenly, Caelum’s voice cuts off, his song ending abruptly.

“Now who’s got his head in the clouds?” Aestus teases between notes. When their friend doesn’t answer, they stop singing as well and turn to face him.

Caelum stands with his eyes wide, mouth slightly parted, his gaze focused on something back in the main part of the accord. His heartbeat jumps, then resumes in a rapid cadence.

“Who is that?” he murmurs. His voice is low, breathy—one doesn’t need to be water attuned to detect the awe in it.

Following Caelum’s gaze, Aestus finds a statuesque young woman striding between the carriages. Her neck swivels to and fro as her deep brown eyes take in the sights around her. She moves with ease and grace, as if she knows exactly where she’s going, though Aestus is certain they’ve never seen her in the accord before.

“Never seen her before,” Aestus admits. “She must be here for Ferragosto. She’s pretty.”

“Pretty? She’s magnificent! Look how she carries herself,” Caelum sighs, actually sighs. His shoulders sag and his head lolls to the side as if he’s lost all muscle in his neck.

Aestus barks out a laugh. “You look like a young teenager with his first crush. It’s embarrassing, seriously. Careful with the water, look what you did,” they snicker, gesturing to Caelum’s hips.

Caelum glances down, realizing belatedly that he’s drenched from the waist down. His arms have drooped, bringing the little rain cloud down till it’s watering only his hips and legs. He swears and waves his arms, dismissing the cloud. Then his head shoots back up, desperately searching for the young woman in the crowd again.

Aestus senses the moment their friend finds his query—hopeful anticipation, yearning, and determination all coalesce inside Caelum, like a pearl forming in his chest. His eyes gleam bright, his mouth parting in an eager grin, and he strides purposely forward.

“Wait, where are you going?” Aestus calls after him. “Cesura, go change first! You only have one chance to make a first impression,” they admonish.

“If I only have one chance, I’m not going to risk missing it over a little water,” Caelum counters. “I have to meet this woman.”

“Ritenuto, calm down, impatient one! You don’t even know her name.”

“But I will,” Caelum asserts, his tone brokering no argument.

He turns around to face his friend, though he continues walking backward, his wet shoes leaving muddy footprints in the dusty earth. He holds his arms out to his sides and grins broadly. Even from this distance, Aestus can feel the elation and earnestness pouring off him like liquid joy.

“I’m going to learn her name and what it sounds like when she speaks mine,” Caelum promises. “I’m going to learn what her favorite drink is. What her hair smells like in the rain. What she looks like first thing in the morning and what she’ll look like fifty years from now. And I’m going to learn whether our children will have her eyes or mine.”

With a jaunty salute, Caelum spins on his heel and jogs off after the mystery woman.

Aestus remains frozen in place, stunned by their friend’s certainty. So astonished are they that they don’t even realize their arms have drooped, their own little rain cloud sending a steady shower down their backside.

The patter of water falling gently upon the warm earth remains the only sound in the field—steady, grounding, and ageless.

Trying to reblog from main is a major hassle so unfortunately for everyone here i decided that I will also be posting any extra content here now!

Im also messing a bit with my art style so, doodle page of characters interacting! (Funnily enough, Blur is my favorite to draw.) Also the hard, hard launch of Frontiers Shadow and SATBK Arthur’s designs! With the exception of movies + shadow meeting Arthur, all the doodles are past events in their respective universes.

Slight lore drop but! Cyber’s actual personality as Sonic is pretty different from what we’ve seen so far! At his core, he’s the same, just missing yk. A bit. Also, rip King Arthur you would’ve loved teenage dirtbag by wheatus. How did he manage to find cigarettes in Camelot of all places? he made them.

Let me know if yall have any other suggestions or want backstories on anyone else! It might be easier for me to draw out prequel posts instead of trying to answer multiple asks to get there!

Cut content: Prologue

This is a simpler version of this post that goes in depth about the files.

Initially, Julie seems to have been planned as part of a prologue that involved playing her, with Verso as the enemy, in the Forgotten Battlefield. Though this was scrapped, some of the dialogue lines and audio files were left in the game (though not all of the dialogue lines have matching audio left in).

I've kept the titles as close to how they are in the files:
