On the left a memorial to the drowned village Tryweryn. The words say “Remember Tryweryn” are in Welsh painted onto the remains of the wall. A piece of Welsh history to commemorate the drowning of Capel Celyn and the homes of all of the residents in order to make a reservoir for Liverpool.
On the right is that same sign today, the word “Elvis” painted over the famous mural. This vandalism has sparked nationwide outrage as many believe it to be a way to try and make us forget our history. Cofiwch Tryweryn, 2019.
( this is gonna be a bit of a rant, so brace yourselfs )
So about 50 odd years ago, a small town called Tryweryn was flooded to help aid Liverpool’s water supply, ( I’m pissed off and some of the info may be a little off but I’ll leave a wiki link at the end of this post of ya wanna check it out yourself) as a result graffiti started appearing everywhere with the words ‘ cofiwch Tryweryn ‘ which means Remember Tryweryn, the most famous of this graffiti was this pic of a rock
It serves as a reminder as what happened and how it should never happen again. Over the years this has stood as a unofficial monument to the town, having people re painting it every year or so to carry on the memory and the message.
However recently someone has vandalised the monument
I am beyond pissed off at this, this is a fuckin monument to make sure what happened never happens again and Someone thought it would be funny to write Elvis over it, like why just why, whoever did this needs to be fuckin educated on why the rock was painted in the first place, this rock means a lot to a load of people ( me included).
To be fair this post wasn’t much of a rant but I want people to know about this, I want people to know it’s not ok to do this shit, and even tho this post doesn’t really convey how pissed I am, I want people to see this anyway.
