In Pearl, are all sirens non-binary? I've been rolling with the assumption that they are (at least by the human definitions of gender), but it would be neat to know for sure!
The siren’s of Pearl and a word on non-binary non-humans.
Indeed, all the sirens in Pearl are non-binary! Since Perle and Dejean have a conversation about their cultural views of gender, I won’t go into details here, but they do find the human concepts of gender pretty silly, (though that doesn’t mean Perle won’t respect their human friend’s genders!)
While we’re talking about non-binary sirens, I would like to mention that you should avoid writing non-binary non-humans (in a world where humans exist) unless it’s made clear that there are also non-binary humans in that world.
It’s a pretty frightening pattern within storytelling to depict only non-humans as being non-binary, and while each story on its own may have good and interesting non-binary non-humans, when there are such an impossibly small number of non-binary human characters ever written it starts to paint the idea that being non-binary means you’re really not quite human at all.
So do write non-binary non-human characters and societies, because they’re really interesting and can be used to explore some cool concepts, but also keep the above in mind while you’re writing them ^^

this instantly reminded me of MotU
Kati question: OH NO D: why is she being cut???????????
I guess you didn’t see this post, but that’s okay. I go into more detail there, but essentially, her character doesn’t serve any real purpose to the story and she’s kind of redundant/repetitive.
Which, to be fair, I didn’t notice until a beta brought it up to me. Which is why we do these beta reading things, as painful a process as they might be.
Jessamine is a good 5'11 already, but she wears heels to further intimidate people.
hi!
woahh, she sounds very powerful and i love it. i don’t know her yet but i already aspire to that level of queendom (even though i’m way too short).
conrad is on the opposite end of the spectrum from jessamine -- he’s very short for a sixteen year old guy (he’s 5′5″). however, he more than makes up for his lack of height with his attitude and is arguably the most intimidating out of the lot of them (out of the good guys, anyways, which means dillan, nick, conrad and victoria).
cog-writes replied to your post “I wanna post stuff and interact with you guys but idk what to post....”
then move along to the middle chapters! very excited to see what you come up with :)
I’ve tried but my brain keeps screaming at me to go back and do it “properly” and I hate it UGH. ;_;
'SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED' IS MY NEW FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD. OUT OF ALL THE THINGS. (i have it scheduled for the near future with a bunch of other comments...but yes. I LOVE IT.)
Yay!!!!! *hugs you really a lot very much forever* :)
I’m so happy that you like it! I love writing Gunky because he’s so amusing and so much my opposite, and I like writing silly funny things. :)
Gonna tag this with my special tag for finding again later. :)
