In 15th century Romania, commonly known as Wallachia, whispered rumours swirl in the farmer's markets of Transylvania about blood and death and vanishing people that disappear and never return. Yet, in your side of the country, life remains deceptively peaceful. Except for your growling stomach, your younger sibling's rotting teeth, and your parents' gaunt cheeks.
Desperate to escape hunger, poverty, and the memory of your older sister that has passed away, you venture far from your village and family in order to work in an isolated castle in Transylvania, home to a reclusive Noble. The pay is good, the meals are warm. Though they cool untouched more often than not, and the nights echo with footsteps on the grand staircase you are forbidden to climb.
But you find the pit of corpses in the rose garden. You smell their rotting bodies and see them beckoning you closer. You stare at the marks on their necks and wrists. And you know the same fate might follow you, if you don't leave this place as quickly as you came.
Because your Noble's interest in you comes with a price that you may not be able to bear.

VLAD / VLADA (M/F) - the reclusive Noble you now serve, whose castle feels more like a tomb than a home. You rise before dawn and work lang past dusk to scrub their marble floors and cook lavish meals that go mostly untouched. Pale as moonlight, with hair and eyes as dark as midnight, V is distant, a creature of shadows. Though they rarely appear when the sun is high, their attention upon you is unwavering. And once V's interest settles on you it feels less like strange admiration, and more like twisted possession. And they won't let anything or anyone take you away.
DISCLAIMER: Misery Loves Company is a short vampire-themed horror interactive fiction story, with erotic elements depending on the path your MC takes. It is written with an 18+ audience in mind due to heavy themes and topics such as death (corpses, murder, murder of a child etc), non consensual transformation, mention of untreated severe mental illness, religious trauma, violence etc. || the fully released public game will have only one possible love interest: VLAD/VLADA, as that is the main story i want to tell. two bonus love interests will be added later on, possibly to a future patreon. more on this in the future FAQ post.

After the bloody aftermath of Draeken's rebellion against Delphora, you're left an orphan. Your mother lies dead beneath a pile of bodies, crushed under the boots of the Time Watchers, and your older brother, Mylo, is nowhere to be found. Bruised and scared, you're taken in by Marek, your mother's friend, together with a few other strays he managed to catch hiding in the shadows of the night.
As Marek tends to your wounds and wipes away your tears, the Council of the Eternals, forever holed up in their lavish upper city, is falling apart. They are in complete mayhem and disarray as, unbeknownst to you, one of the five time shards that keep the heart of the city, the Clocktower, working in tune with time's balance has been stolen.
Oddly enough, that lost shard looks suspiciously similar to the strange shiny stone your mother gave you and your brother right before the doomed uprising. With it gone, the flow of time grows slippery and erratic, as the Clocktower starts to decay without its missing piece.
Life in the undercity of Draeken, also known as The Depths, is brutal enough. But when an ill-fated encounter leaves you forever altered, with your blood itself changed, you’ll soon realize that time is strange, and the thin fabric of reality a fickle thing. Even more so when it’s something you can no longer just witness ... but may be forced to control.

Maddox / Maxine (M/F) - Rough around the edges and with a body built for combat, M's very demeanour and appearance reflects years of hard living together with you in Draeken. Taken in by Marek after the failed uprising, M had grown overbearingly protective of you on the very first night of sharing a bed with each other as kids. Now, all grown up, M fights in Marek's underground fighting pit to earn their keep, but with every bloodied knuckle, their anger at the scraps their people are handed by Delphora’s elite grows. M is ready to make a change. Are you?

Riven / Raven (M/F) - A street-smart wildcard loyal only to the highest bidder, R lives by a simple rule: survive and have a good time while doing it. Always charming, confident, and looking at you like they want to take your pants off any second, you’ll have to find out if R is worthy of your trust, or if they’re truly incapable of not betraying those they care about.

Seraphim / Seraphina Vaughn (M/F) - The strangest person you have met down in The Depths, and that’s saying something. They’re a people pleaser at heart, but S’s thinly veiled ambition and naivety about the streets of Draeken makes you wonder about their intentions. what do you guys think about the options to select the gender of the ROs at the beginning of the story OR to randomise them?
i know a lot of people prefer choosing the RO's gender upon meeting them, but would the previously mentioned options work too?
plus, if you'd choose the option for RO gender selection before the story starts, you get a physical description of each RO (with the differences between genders like hair and whatnot) + some characteristics and their current relationship with MC, if they have one, so that you know what you're deciding on.
