Week #16 - Merlin and Arthur’s Gifts for Each Other
Now, I entirely question Arthur’s talents at getting anyone gifts but there is one headcanon that I have where he totally nails his gift to Merlin. For Christmas, he’d give Merlin a personalised snow globe that has a miniature Ealdor/Hunith’s hut inside it. We’re just gonna ignore the fact snow globes were not yet invented at the canon era.
I think in general Arthur’s gifts would always be too grand for Merlin’s liking (he’d always go overboard) and they’d make Merlin awkward or embarrassed but he’d never complain because Arthur would always be so excited. Like, he’d certainly commission a painting of Merlin that would be hung above the fireplace. And in this au the medieval artists actually understood perspective.
Merlin, on the other hand, would probably be practical and thoughtful with his gifts. I bet he’d put behind his ear every little comment Arthur might make about needing something and then making sure to get him one. Merlin would also be giving a lot more casual gifts that are not related to any kind of an important day.
For example, in the wintertime Arthur could tell Merlin he used to love watching the stars during the warm summer nights and Merlin would hold on to that until the next summer when he’d take Arthur to star gazing. Or Arthur could mention getting a boner during the day and Merlin would wake care of it in the evening, just saying.
