Would you consider colonel Royez a ghoul?

For those not in the know, Col. Royez is a boss character from the New Vegas DLC Lonesome Road. He's what's known as a "marked man", someone who's been pelted with the intense radiation found in The Divide. They've also stripped of their skin by the perpetual storms there that kick up endless sand (let's all say it together: fuck you, Think Tank/Big MT...I swear to god, those assholes are related to basically every bad thing that's ever happened in the Fallout universe by some Bacon Number-esque margin).

I would consider Royez and his compatriots to be a kind of ghoul, though closer to a feral ghoul than the sort you could recruit as a companion. To me, the main thing that constitutes a ghoul in the Fallout universe is the reliance on—and creation via—radiation. Just like all flash-ghoulified folks, marked men were exposed to massive doses of rads in the wake of a series nuclear explosions and transformed physically (as well as mentally, much like a feral).

Due to this, they have a similar regenerative ability to ghouls—possibly even better, since they're able to survive in levels of radiation even some ghouls may balk at. They're also all living with what would likely be fatal injuries as long as they remain where the rad levels are intensely elevated. Though all of the marked men seem to have been stripped of all thought that isn't basic instinct, they demonstrate similar behavior to ghouls by congregating in high-rad areas, likely for the purpose of healing and comfort. There's a reason you usually have to fight off a pack of marked men before you can clear out the nuclear warheads that still remain strewn along your path.
