Kept getting asks for a coloring process so I thought I'd show y'all a little bitty recording of my coloring method. I don't usually do one panel, I sorta assembly line the whole page, bit for the sake of video time and not spoiling an upcoming page, I just stuck to this one panel.
I've been told my coloring method is a bit concerning
Hello! I have an art question for you bc you're one of the few Tumblr people I know who draw nsfw stuff lol
I'm interested in getting into both digital drawing and nsfw stuff, specifically digital nsfw stuff, do you have any tips for getting started?
I'm pretty good at anatomy already, but I mostly draw traditionally and it's already a bit of a learning curve to go from traditional to digital, although I've been getting better and I've gotten the basics down, but I know that nsfw art is a whole other ballgame, but I am determined! I love your stucky art so much, and it's always amazing, I figured I'd try and learn from the best <3
Thank you so much!!
First, thank you so much that’s unbelievably sweet of you,
Second, I have no idea what I’m doing either—also this is going to be a long post.
BUT, besides anatomy I think one of the most important things with nsfw art is the skin, especially since, if you’re drawing them entirely naked, you’re going to see a shit ton of it.
I hope that’s okay for now, if there’s something specific please feel free to ask! And I’m sorry if I misunderstood :))
The program I’m using is clip studio paint, and Steve will be our test dummy for this! Now, let’s get into it.
If you’re just getting into digital art i think the easiest way to get into coloring, is gradient maps.
That way you can focus on getting all the shadows and highlights right before getting into colors, which in my experience was extremely confusing and a bit daunting.
You can take your sketch, create another layer underneath and get started! Make sure you add a base color, I used a light grey!
Then you can use the edit menu, tonal correction, and gradient map! There’s all sorts of options, and more can be downloaded from the store! (If using clip studio paint)
It’ll automatically color what you’ve done, and you can adjust the color values in the gradient map menu.
After that I like to adjust since there usually aren’t pinks in the gradient maps I use!
1. I add blush, highlights, and additional shadows if needed.
2. I use a clipping mask, and a deep red or brown color for the line art, personally I only color the inside likeart and leave a black border around the entire character.
3. I add my final white highlights, and color over all my layers including lineart usually for final touches.
Examples:
I used gradient maps to get these drawings started, and adjusted as needed.
One last thing, I try to keep my colors saturated, to do this I tend to stay away from the ‘grey area’ of the color wheel.
Vs if I move more towards the ‘grey area it will become much more muted.
I’m sorry if this is confusing, I’m not great at explaining my process, if you have specific questions feel free to reach out!
And to anyone starting digital art clip studio isn’t your only option, I know it’s expensive.
A great free art program for computer is Krita! That’s the computer program I started with at least.
Decided to edit the existing lineart of one of my OCs to reflect his Warcraft AU version of him...just...cause...reasons. idk. I could so I did lol
