Baby Sarah would not stop crying now matter what you did. She wasn’t hungry, she wasn’t wet, she wasn’t tired; she was just unhappy. There was nothing else you could try. You put her back down in her crib and sat in the old maple rocking chair next, clamping your hands over your ears. What were you doing wrong? You’d done everything you could think of, but she just wouldn’t settle. Big, fat tears of failure slipped down your face and you closed your eyes, pushing your head against the hard wood chair.
“What’s all the commotion?”
Your eyes popped open as your husband’s voice rang over Sarah’s cries. “Jay…she won’t stop crying. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong!”
Jensen fell to his knees before you and gathered you in his arms. “Shh…you’re not doing anything wrong Y/N.” He kissed your cheek, brushing away a stream of tears with a swipe of his fingers. “She just misses her Daddy I bet.”
Jensen stood and leaned over the crib, reaching in for his daughter. Sarah shrieked even louder and he pulled away instantly, whacking his elbow on the wooden railing as he went. “AHH!” He yelped and clutched his funny bone as the sharp pain radiated down to his fingers. Sarah stopped screaming and a small giggle escaped her lips.
“She…she stopped.” You sat up in amazement. “What did you do?”
“I just hit my elbow on…” Sarah went back to crying, interrupting her father’s words.
You whined and sat back against the chair, about to resign yourself to a night full of infant tears. Jensen’s eyebrows shot up and his lips pursed; he had an idea. You watched as he ran out of the room. You heard him rummaging through the kitchen cabinets, probably making a mess for you to clean up later. “What are you doing!” You called after him.
He returned a moment later with a metal bowl and a hammer. Sarah’s screams grew louder as he put the bowl over his head and leaned over the crib rail. You watched on in amazement as Jensen whacked the bowl with the hammer and made a crazy face. The clang from metal striking metal covered the baby’s cries and she stopped yelling. Her big green eyes looked up at her father and she laughed. Jensen shot you a knowing look, very proud of himself and took another swing with the hammer. Sarah cackled; the sweet baby laugh filled the nursery and you relaxed.
Your big, brave, monster-killing actor husband whacked himself in the head until Sarah calmed down enough to drift off to sleep; a tiny smile on her face.
“Thank you so much babe. That was a great idea.” You kissed his cheek as you pulled the bowl off of his head.
Jensen looked at you, a little dizzy from the banging. “She better learn to talk soon and tell us what’s wrong, I don’t know how many more blows to the head I can take.”
You laughed, “Well maybe tomorrow we try a banana peel fall. She seems to appreciate slapstick.”
Jensen laughed, “This kid’s gonna be the death of me.”
I don’t know what this was, sorry. lol. SUBMIT A THING! @inmysparetime0
