Who cares about realism in superhero comic books anyway? It’s realistic for a single mutation on the 23rd chromosome to give a man the power to control the movement of all photons in the universe (and for the exact same mutation to give a different guy frictionless skin and allow a woman to transform into a shark at will), but having a man live past ninety is going too far?

X-Men in particular is a collection of stories about bigotry and minority politics. The only thing that matters, in terms of realism, is whether or not the exposited beliefs of the characters therein are believable. If these fictional people are relateable as human beings in their struggles then it’s realistic enough
