This lays bare the juxtaposition between Cass and Tenji is also, in no small part, the juxtaposition between Cain and Turner. Cass was spared no arrow, no blow and it’s made her someone undefinable, and here is where that cost is articulated. Not that Cass states it - she’s never been good at recognizing the inhumanity of it - but in Turners little bit of hesitation. In the knowledge he had that a child was being raised by a monster. And more than anything else, he wants better for his son, even at the cost of that son’s weakness, in comparison to Cain who cared not a whit for Cassandra’s humanity if she could be undefiable.
