Quick question which may be a bit silly, so I apologize, but as an artist that also tries to have a life I personally try not to answer work emails on the weekend. Unless of course it's a rush job or something of immense importance. Is that something that AD's find bothersome? Would they much rather an artist respond to them ASAP or is it something completely dependent upon the job requirements. Thank you so much!
If you are not perilously close to a deadline, then no, it’s not expected to answer emails on a weekend. ADs may send them, because we’re lunatics and work too much, but generally even if we’re catching up on our work by sending emails, we don’t expect answers till Monday.
That said, if you ARE on close deadline or working on a particularly stressful project with an AD then yes, you should keep a close eye on your email, just to be supportive and on the ball. But you’ll know when those situations arise. The chances of an emergency job coming out of the blue at you on a weekend that you are expected to answer immediately are very very rare.
And I applaud your attempt at healthy boundaries and work-life balance!
