Being a cardinal sign means being motivating, having strong impulses toward one’s environment with the fundamental desire to shape it one’s way. Capricorn and Aries share this characteristic, but they differ in element - respectively earth and fire. They are indeed conflicting: Capricorn is the liege worker that builds a firm house, Aries is the explosion that brings the structure down and burns it into cinder. They are representatives of two different kinds of will to influence their life and the world they live in: Capricorn wants stability and realization through hard work, Aries wants to have it all his way and dive head first into every novelty that attracts his mind. One supports existing conformity, the other wants to found his conformity.
As friends, they should like each other in case they share the same kind of Rising and Venus signs – either a shy type or an aggressive type. If they have no harmony in that area, they’re probably not going to give one another a good impression. On a basic situation, Capricorn may wonder from which kindergarten has Aries escaped, with such a childish behavior and the crazy idea that he could really ever achieve anything by throwing tantrums; on the other side Aries might want to ask Capricorn which totalitarian government has educated him, giving him that resulting cold, rigid, waterboarding-inclined vibe he’s so happy to build his life with. They would feel a constant age gap between them; they would be hardly functioning as a working team. In a squad of friends instead they could be needing each other: Aries would really help a Capricorn loosen up, since they have an anti-barrier disposition, while Capricorn is usually responsible and reliable enough to bring both their intoxicated bodies at home at the end of the night. Maybe they could fight about where they want to go and what they want to do every once in a while.
As lovers, Aries might be pure panic for a Capricorn. Love brings people’s ingenuity under the sunlight, and an ingenuous Aries is impetuous, restless, incredibly curious and on occasions demanding and petulant. Capricorns are scared shitless by that attitude, the more timid they are, the fastest they run to their refuges and lock themselves up. They need a good robust Venus and Mars combination to stand Aries’ energy and play their flirt game. Aries wants to conquer everything, the fastest, the better; Capricorn wants to follow a precise schedule, and feel extremely secure before they start letting go of each restraint. If an Aries wants to have a relationship with a Capricorn, he’s probably going to accidentally repel him instead; if a Capricorn likes an Aries, he risks instead to have all the attentions towards him go unnoticed, since Aries isn’t subtle and only tends to be aware of what approaches him directly, a way of manifesting feelings that doesn’t suit the average Capricorn.
If they happen to successfully establish communication and come into liking each other, a subsequent relationship might be stormy. It would work if they’re able to undertake a patient behavior toward each other’s pet peeves, and take turns on command. It might be difficult and a bit pathetic at times; there are some limit cases of Aries exemplars completely missing the point of romantic spirit, making for sadly embarrassing moments such as if Capricorn buys and shows them sexy, intricate lingerie and they go “what’s the point if we’re doing it naked?”; or another thing that could take place is an embarrassed to near-death Capricorn having to explain their perplexed, irritated boss why are there gigantic pink and red plushies being brought to their office by an entire delivery service team, along with a dozen bouquets of roses and a singing card signed by Aries. If they can’t learn to love their differences, they’re going to hate each other for their acts of love and that would be miserable.
As enemies, Aries is going to make a mess out of the life of Capricorn, and he’s really going to grasp the true definition of “psychopath” because of that, since he’s probably going to become one. When Aries is in competition with someone, he’s usually loud and open and catches a lot of attention. Capricorn hates that, but unless he’s equipped with some weak Moon or Mars placements, he’s not going to let it bring him down very easily: he will most likely develop a strategy to bring his enemy down with efficiency, something that only requires time, silent diligence and just a little bit of cunning. Against them, Aries win instantly or they’re bound to lose. Capricorns should anyway stay aware that an Aries with bad Mercury and Mars signs could very well opt for a kick in the teeth if he can’t win with good manners.
