The Clash - “Complete Control” (1977)
On this day—September 23rd, 1977—“Complete Control,” the third single by the Clash, was released in the UK. Despite the fact that the song wouldn’t be released in the US until nearly two years later when it was included on the band’s debut album in 1979, its legacy remains undiminished. The Clash’s first top 30 single in the UK, peaking at number 28, the song—a fiery screed against record companies, managers, and state of modern music in general—is one of the greatest punk singles of all time and considered by many to be the band’s signature and one of the greatest songs of all time.
