Can I ask for more about marikilah pearssler ?? <3
YESSSS!!! I’m going to elaborate a bit more than I did last time.
It’s mari!Pearson and akilah!Tressler. and since I Can I’ll explore the little parallels that im most excited write.
So far, the part I’m most excited about finishing is “new blood has to earn their seat”, which is the opening. I think it’s so telling of Mari’s character specifically, and this was a Mari blog before a tlw one so in a way, I get to explore both of them in this.
For so much of Mari’s arc in the show, she wants to fit in and have a Place, which falls a bit into Pearson being a musketeer but Not Really.
I haven’t quite decided if I’d like to genderbend them yet though I’m leaning towards no right now, just because (To Me) there are minuscule changes in their characters that would change the ending. (I think Jazmine Pearson is a slightly better listener than James, and if she listens to the warning she gets then. No Pit)
Pearson trying to prove himself, and staying close to the created hierarchy out there, but Tressler being somewhere he feels free to act normal is a really enjoyable dynamic for me.
The fic starts on the plane and i’m thinking of a 5+1 format starting on the plane and ending a little bit after the pit. It’s basically confirmed that teen Akilah is alive so the +1 aspect is fully about Tressler and the aftermath of Pearson’s death which is also going to be fun because, I’m not sure if I’ll keep Pearson as the cook, but I still want to give him a role similar to that, so that his absence is palpable everywhere.
My tentative plan is to have a chapter/segment for each season!! So the first fall, winter, spring, summer/fall mix because there’s so much Going On that they lose track a little bit and Pearson’s last winter. Since the end is sort of up to me I sort of want to do survivor!tressler!! I’m unsure if I want to do post-rescue or pre-rescue but I definitely want to explore Pearson’s absence from camp so this very well may end up more than 6 chapters.
Your take on an anthro RW AU is my favorite I've ever seen. Where do you get inspirations? I want to try making one too but I'm worried I'll accidentally copy you.
Honestly I don't have any specific places for inspirations... If there is anything particularly unique about how I go about it, its probably that I go at things from more of a xenobiology angle (Xenobiology in this case referring to speculative, fictionalized biology and ecology for creatures and systems that don't actually exist in reality) more than a strict humanization anthro/furry. This places a lot of emphasis on the biological differences between the two main anthro species (scavengers and slugcats) and how that effects their cultures, their clothing, how they interact with the word... even if they're both intelligent anthros, the way the two of them exist is meant to be a bit different- and they also aren't fully and uniformly associated, some places have more Scavs, some have more slugcats, some areas only have one, and all of them have differences in how they look at their own culture and stuff. It creates a bit of friction between them but also interesting interactions where they do overlap- and allows for the characters to have very different outlooks on the world based on where they happen to be. Anything else is probably pulls from a a mix of broad cultural/anthropological concepts rather than inspired by any specific tribes, I also just generally have familiarity with a lot of ecological and social concepts, like "primitive" human environmental care, etc. I'm coming at it from the angle of early intelligent life who also have a bit of a tech boost from the previous people- but have an imperfect, maybe a bit sloppy system thats understandable for their tech level. You wanna think about the things they maybe don't get as much as the things they do. Also don't worry to much... If you want to use me as inspiration go right ahead. If you're still concerned just give me a shout out or something- as long as you're putting your own twists on things I'm not gonna be looking at the details for if its too much like me, haha.
Tw: Attempted Suicide
Just read your tags with Bruce using his plot armor to his advantage coupled witht the suicidality... this is already an angsty take so allow me to make it angstier
In one of his really, really low moments, when everyone seems to have a problem with him but is doing really good for themselves on their own and he's just had a hell of a month of terrible, failed cases and it's in a moment of quiet that he decides to test it. His supposed inability to die. Maybe he's been trying to passively die on a mission for a while but he just keeps coming out mostly safe and sound. He goes down to the cave and takes out the gun that killed his parents from its hiding spot nobody knows about and holds it to his head. He decides it's convenient, the timing. Nothing is lost if he dies, he isn't needed, hasn't been needed for some time now, with his kids and other heroes working well and passionately.
If it does work, then. Well. Just another thing to figure out, to find the limits, applications and how to use it. And such.
He made up his mind the second he touched the gun's metal. He doesn't hesitate.
The single bullet left, meant for him all those years ago, jams up, doesn't blow his brains out, hurts the metal more than Bruce's ears when it lodges itself diagonally in the barrel, unremovable. A symbol, he'd call it if he felt sardonic enough.
He sits there for a moment, holding the gun aloft. Neither nauseously disappointed nor guiltily relieved, just reflexively angry. At himself, at the gun.
At Gotham.
He hides it away again, jammed up and all, and goes to his room. Sits there. Waits. For something. Anything. Doesn't know what to do now. Isn't really certain he proved anything beyond his own reckless, foolish nature and stubbornness, a thing often criticized from all sides, his family, the JL, and friends. A humorless smile finds its way to his mouth, as he's standing in his family's shoes and seeing their concern clearly, if a little misshapen, from a far off place.
He'll call his kids tomorrow, he thinks dazedly, ask how their day went if they feel like talking. After that, Zatanna.
Little ficlet that came out of nowhere, sorry. What do you think? How do you see it?
Perfect.

Finally got the time to watch the Supergirl teaser.
In the spirit of staying positive and not judging a film by its marketing I will remain cautiously optimistic.
... But man are those dimly lit brown landscapes hard to look at
Cautiously. Optimistic.
I will never call my cat my "furbaby" but I will show my cat pictures of my friends' cats and say "that's your cousin."
