ofalderaan: I love that everyone talks about...
There is a significant focus in fanfiction, in meta, even in the tie-in materials, on Leia's relationship to Anakin and Padme as her birth parents. This is entirely appropriate, especially since that reveal is the culmination of years of storytelling; it was not Always Known, and was only discovered in bits. The most thoughtful, reflective, informed, and knowledgeable of the observations, however, includes significant discussion of how Leia's PARENTS--the ones who raised her, the ones who loved her, the ones who guided her, the ones she KNEW--shaped her *and* how her knowing them and being raised by them and LOVING them...and losing them at the hands of the man she later learned was biologically related...and her relationship with and knowledge of them informs her struggle with her new knowledge. Adoption, reunion, personal history, and new knowledge are typically fraught in the process of reconciliation of these two parts of one's upbringing and self, and I value like crazy the stories and meta that address how Leia works through her sense of self in view of her parents and what she later learns about her biological family.
