COMPUTAEX Expands Quantum Ambitions with QURECA
Strategic Alliance with QURECA Strengthens COMPUTAEX Quantum Strategy
A collaboration agreement has been reached between quantum technology company QURECA and the Extremadura Foundation for Computing and Advanced Technologies (COMPUTAEX), a public non-profit created by the Junta de Extremadura in 2009. This collaboration seeks technical and strategic consulting. The acquisition reinforces COMPUTAEX's dedication to cutting-edge technology and the local quantum ecosystem.
COMPUTAEX is a strategic asset that will run one of the nation's quantum emulators, according to the National Quantum Technologies Strategy 2025-2030.
Regional Quantum Capacity Contribution of QURECA
QURECA will advise on technical decisions and regional quantum capability strategies as part of the arrangement. This aid covers several essential areas:
Exploring new quantum computing research possibilities for the innovation centre.
Giving instructions.
Partnering for R&D and i calls.
Conducting market research and technological analysis to identify industry opportunities and use cases.
Participating in science education.
QURECA connects public administration, academia, and business by providing professional services, resources, and training to grow the global quantum technology ecosystem.
COMPUTAEX Infrastructure and Quantum Commitments
COMPUTAEX runs the Extremadura Supercomputing Centre, which offers cutting-edge infrastructure and expert support for scientific, technological, and commercial projects. Cloud computing, AI, data science, quantum computing, HPC, and IoT are given.
The Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities named the Centre a Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS) and part of the Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES). The Centre has funded over 250 R&D&i projects since its foundation.
COMPUTAEX is participating in major quantum research projects. Nationally, it is part of the Quantum Spain effort to construct a quantum computer for public and scientific use. It manages the regional QCO4HPC project. For research, COMPUTAEX has worldwide alliances like Fujitsu quantum computing in Japan.
Future Growth Plan
The Data Processing Centre houses LUSITANIA supercomputers. COMPUTAEX plans to expand significantly in the future months to surpass Petaflop processing power. 1000 trillion floating-point operations per second equals 1 Petaflop. The PERTE Chip effort and MareNostrum 4-based LUSITANIA IV supercomputer cluster expand its capabilities. The most crucial preparation is installing a next-generation quantum emulator.
The company is “delighted to be able to support COMPUTAEX and the Extremadura community to establish themselves as a key ecosystem in quantum technologies,” said QURECA Director Araceli Venegas Gómez.
Concerning COMPUTAEX
The Extremadura Computing and Advanced Technologies Foundation (COMPUTAEX), a non-profit public organisation, was founded in 2009 by the Regional Government of Extremadura to manage the Extremadura Supercomputing Centre and promote sustainable socioeconomic growth through advanced communications, information technologies, and high-performance computing.
Concerning QURECA
QURECA provides expert services, resources, and training to expand the global quantum technology ecosystem. Training, specialised courses, and events that foster cooperation and creativity combine industry, academia, and government. It helps organizations assess the quantum landscape and promotes quantum technology through outreach and consultation. It seeks a strong, connected, and friendly global quantum community.
