The start of the third decade of the second millennium was a hallmark of many global milestone events that caught the world with mixed reactions. On the one hand, the outbreak of COVID-19, that was named as such because it spread rapidly at the very end of the year 2019, was a major event where you will have to go as far back as the Spanish Flu a 100 years back or farther into the Plague era to identify a disease that afflicted the globe gravely as it did.
True to such spreading pandemics, unusual activities might be associated with them, including sporadic wars. However, and typical in such overall alarming happenings, innovations and industries flourish giving way to ensuing economic expansions, the largest of which was immediately after WW II. It is also true that certain groups are more prepared than others to capture the benefits of such expansion. In this instance, open markets are to be referred to for guidance.
"Do you think that this AI thing is helpful in our research?" I asked one of my business associates who happens to be my research colleague too. "No, I do not think so," answered my hard-core mechanical engineer friend. This question was some 3 years ago, but it is clear now that AI search has become indispensable in carrying out business and even interfering with daily activities and decisions.
You see, AI search is not exactly internet search, it is much more than that. It is approaching the human intelligence in the sense that you have to tap into it from many angles before you can unlock how the AI can help you. You do not start an automatic Q and A session with the AI and hope to get meaningful results right away.
Further, researchers in the physical, engineering and computational sciences are having a built-in advantage in AI usage because the AI underlying platform itself is based on their principles. AI approaches most of other topics with caution in terms of narration, analysis or in some cases, for analyzing ongoing societal situations, it refrains from engaging deeply in such conversations.
So there, and anyway, the AI is your first stop now to search and consult. The structure and players in this field are more or less well established. The road map for growth and improvement is charted for at least the end of the next decade to explore then exploit, but what to do with this knowledge trove is entirely up to you.
