E-Portfolio

An electronic portfolio (also known as an eportfolio, e-portfolio, digital portfolio, or online portfolio)is a collection of electronic evidence assembled and managed by a user, usually on the Web. Such electronic evidence may include inputted text, electronic files, images, multimedia, blog entries, and hyperlinks. E-portfolios are both demonstrations of the user's abilities and platforms for self-expression, and, if they are online, they can be maintained dynamically over time. An e-portfolio can be seen as a type of learning record that provides actual evidence of achievement. In education the electronic portfolio is a collection of a students’ work that can advance learning by providing a way for them to organize, archive, and display work. The electronic format allows an instructor to evaluate student portfolios via the Internet, CD-ROM, DVD, or zip disk. Electronic portfolios have become a popular alternative to paper-based portfolios because they provide the opportunity to review, communicate and give feedback in an asynchronous manner. In addition, students are able to reflect on their work, which makes the experience of creating the e-portfolio meaningful. Prezi is a presentation tool that can be used as an alternative to traditional slide making programs such as PowerPoint. Instead of slides, Prezi makes use of one large canvas that allows you to pan and zoom to various parts of the canvas and emphasize the ideas presented there. Dear my laptop, it seems like you are not strong enough to keep my files warm in your blanket that they always die or get lost. I don’t know why you do this to me, but all I know is you keep being cold and leave insecurity everywhere. Do you hate me that much?

However, now I know how to make it disappear. Let me introduce you the easiest personal online storage service that could ever exist in the world; Dropbox !

Dropbox is a file hosting service operated by Dropbox, Inc., headquartered in San Francisco, California, that offers cloud storage, file synchronization, personal cloud, and client software. Dropbox allows users to create a special folder on their computers, which Dropbox then synchronizes so that it appears to be the same folder (with the same contents) regardless of which computer is used to view it. Files placed in this folder are also accessible via the Dropbox website and mobile apps. Dropbox uses a freemium business model, where users are offered a free account with a set storage size and paid subscriptions for accounts with more capacity.

Dropbox was founded in 2007 by MIT students Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi, as a startup company from the American seed accelerator Y Combinator. Dropbox provides client software for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, BlackBerry OS, Windows Phone and web browsers, as well as unofficial ports to Symbian and MeeGo. Create a reflective blog (1) - TUMBLR

Good morning!

I am now going to tell you about this website; TUMBLR.com !!!

Wikipedia says that Tumblr (stylized in its logo as tumblr.) is a microblogging platform and social networking website founded by David Karp and owned by Yahoo! Inc. The service allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog. Users can follow other users' blogs, as well as make their blogs private. Much of the website's features are accessed from the "dashboard" interface, where the option to post content and posts of followed blogs appear.

Blog management

Dashboard: The dashboard is the primary tool for the typical Tumblr user. It is a live feed of recent posts from blogs that they follow. Through the dashboard, users are able to comment, reblog, and like posts from other blogs that appear on their dashboard. The dashboard allows the user to upload text posts, images, video, quotes, or links to their blog with a click of a button displayed at the top of the dashboard. Users are also able to connect their blogs to their Twitter and Facebook accounts, so whenever they make a post, it will also be sent as a tweet and a status update.

Queue: Users are able to set up a schedule to delay posts that they make. They can spread their posts over several hours or even days.

Tags: For each post a user creates, they are able to help their audience find posts about certain topics by adding tags. If someone were to upload a picture to their blog and wanted their viewers to find pictures, they would add the tag #picture, and their viewers could use that word to search up posts with the tag #picture.

HTML editing: Tumblr allows users to edit their blog's theme HTML coding to control the appearance of their blog. Users are also able to use a custom domain name for their blog.

Mobile

With Tumblr's 2009 acquisition of Tumblerette, an Apple App Store application created by Jeff Rock and Garrett Ross, the service launched its official iPhone app.The site became available to BlackBerry smartphones on April 17, 2010 via a Mobelux application in BlackBerry World. In June 2012, Tumblr released a new version of its iOS app, Tumblr 3.0 allowing support for Spotify, hi-res images and offline access.An app for Android is also available.A Windows Phone app was released on April 23, 2013. An app for Google Glass was released on May 16, 2013.

Blogging for Teachers

Now, I am going to discuss the pros and cons of one free blog service for teachers. There are actually countless number of free blogging service nowadays. In this link, you will find more than 40 blogging service provided for every level of blog users.

However, out 40+ free blogging service there, there is one blog which I think gives the best feature and makes me interested. It is InsaneJournal.

"InsaneJournal is an online journaling ("blogging") service powered by the LiveJournal.com open source software." This blog is for users who want to keep in touch with their friends, create an online diary, and post common things or subject. This blog service is built from Danga Interactive. Pro and Con of InsaneJournal for beginner bloggers: The pros of this blog service are: - It has a very simple and clean interface that it makes beginner bloggers easier in finding the menu or features in the blog. - It is a free blog service. - It is also functioned as a journal keeper, it works like an online diary, and so that the users can write everything they want in the blog. This is very useful for beginner bloggers to enhance their writing skill. - It has a smart way to prevent the journals being stolen or plagiarized by other bloggers. The cons of this blog service are: - It still has to be paid if the users want to upgrade the blog's feature. - The interface looks simple, but it lacks of color. So, for some beginner bloggers, it might be boring. - Account in this blog service can only be created if the users have friends who are using this website. Thus, their friends can give account creation code for the new user.

HTML Code in Nicenet (WYSIWYG editors)

Yuhuuu! Meet me again!

At first, I thought that nicenet.org, beside being very handy for online beginner learners, is not able to upload graphics, images, videos, and format font size, color, and even insert links. However, in this week’s practice, we finally know that nicenet can do those all.

Nicenet.org allows its users to use html codes for the things I mention above. It works together with WYSIWYG editors.

If you open the page, you can see a brief description about it:

“This online HTML editor is provided as a FREE resource to anyone needing to use HTML code for your shopping cart product descriptions, email newsletter, blog or other areas of your website? Use our free WYSIWYG editor to get the HTML code you need. Just enter and format your content as desired below using the tools provided. When you are done, click the 'Source' button and it will display your HTML code. Copy and paste the code to your website. WYSIWYG editors are HTML editors that provide an editing interface which resembles how the page will be displayed in a web browser. Familiarizing with Nicenet

Aloha!

This time, I would like to share the first online classroom assistant that I use in my LabCom class. It is nicenet.org. Even though this is my first time, I do not find any difficulties in managing it. I'm amazed to find that this online class is very easy to be used.

Here, to get familiarized with nicenet, I want to provide the pros and cons of nicenet, what is allowed and disallowed, how to delete a class member, another free service providing online classroom discussion except nicenet, and how to create a class in nicenet.

Here we go:

*What we can and cannot do in nicenet. What we can do in nicenet: 1. We can create online classes by our own. 2. We can start the discussion by posting conferencing messages to our members in the class and replying them. 3. We can send personal messages to the members. What we cannot do in nicenet: 1. We cannot join the class unless the class administrator give us the class key. 2. We cannot upload images directly in the conferencing message unless we attach it in a website editor which will link and direct the images to our messages. 3. We cannot view our class members' profile. *What are allowed and disallowed in nicenet. What is allowed in nicenet: 1. Nicenet allows the users to create one username for many different classes. What is not allowed in nicenet: 1. Nicenet does not allow the users to sign in the class without password and username. *How to delete class member. 1. Click class administration on left side in classes feature. 2. Choose the class that you want to administer. 3. Then, choose the member that you want delete. 4. Finished. *Another free service providing online classroom discussion. I personally think that COURSERA.org is very beneficial for students around the world to study at home. There is massive amount of renowned universities in the world which have partnership with this online learning facility, such as Columbia University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Nanyang Technological University Singapore, National Taiwan University, Princeton University, The University of British Columbia, Yale University and many more. COURSERA.org provides many classes in different subjects. The class system is most likely the same as offline class in a university. There are discussions, lectures, conferences, assignments, even examinations. Besides, in COURSERA.org, we can choose as many as courses that we want to study. At the end of the class, we will be given a Statement of Accomplishment certificate, which we can use for many occasions (applying for a job, etc). Access to COURSERA : https://www.coursera.org/ *How to create a class in NICENET.org. If you already have a nicenet account, then please follow this: 1. Move your cursor to the left part of the page and you will find 'Classes' menu under 'Personal Messages' menu. Click 'Create'. 2. Write the class name that you want to create. 3. Click 'Create New Class'. 4. You will be given a new class key for your new class. Save it. 5. Share your class key to your students to be the members of your class. 6. Click "Finish Class Creation'.
