Mini-ish rant a head about old computers

When a program gets updated and only semi works after that because the laptop is from 2011 and wont update past 2015

More context godot got updated and now it wont test play my game, only allows me to do stuff outside of game testing which isnt helpful as i need to test as i go cause i'm a baby newb at coding it doesnt quite comput with my brain yet

I desperately need a new computer as my old laptop that i had for like 4-5 years quit randomly so i'm stuck with the dinosaur laptop till i can afford a new one though it's testing my patience as it only has 4 gigs of ram... its definitely showing its age as its slowing down, programs glitch that havent done so before, and some just refuse to start because the devs updated the program past what the computer is able to handle

For now, the computer issue has been resolved. Asshat either changed his mind, or my grandmother caught him working on a shitty one he was gonna give me and went ape shit on him, either way... I get to keep this one for now until I can afford another one

Regarding the word "algorithm"

It's a regular word, with a specific meaning. It refers to a series of instructions, including conditional steps. Your calculator adding two numbers is following an addition algorithm. Sorting entries in a table is using a sorting algorithm. An algorithm can do nothing. A recipe (being a series of steps) is an algorithm (although one that's less rigorous than in mathematics or computers).

But a lot in the media you hear "algorithm" refer to "social media blackbox recommendation systems". Now, these are algorithms, no doubt! But the use of the term in this way is a bit confusing for those of us who regularly need to refer to both concepts.

Consequently, I distinguish the two in the following way:

lower-case a algorithms are procedures, like I laid out above. A system to determine if a word is an English palindrome is an algorithm. It's a technical term, and has minimal political significance.

Upper-case A Algorithms refer to black-box systems maintained by corporations as part of their customer retention and monopolization systems. Discussing these is generally much more political than technical.

But seriously though, "algorithms" are not inherently bad, please be specific when in a domain where both meanings could apply. It's like the word "inception", it doesn't mean "thing embedded within a thing" (that's recursion or maybe a strange loop). Inception just means the beginning of something, like "the inception of the research project was when Billy realized that his sunflower wasn't turning to face the sun".

Sorry everyone for the lack of art recently, I've fallen host to a ton of computer problems and am trying to figure out funds in order to fix it, hopefully I'll be able to post some of the stuff I saved on a spare driver soon and at least be able to get some content to everyone

......so i just started looking into new computers (idk if i want a laptop or desktop at this point. leaning towards laptop cuz i need to go places. like upstairs).

as of right now it’s looking like i’m going to have to go with some sort of gaming computer cuz i run my stuff so hard (I’M SORRY LAPTOP I LOVE YOU). i don’t even game that much. but having 40-80 tabs, skype, photoshop, itunes, and whatever else i’m trying to work on at the time, maxes out the memory and cpu almost instantly. and we’ve already expanded what my laptop can do to its max (8gb). 

and since i don’t get new computers on a regular basis (this is the only one i’ve had and it’s almost 7 years old), i want to upgrade the intel processor to an i7 (i’m on i5) so it’ll last me a good while without feeling slow.

we went to microcenter today just to look around (and cuz we were passing it on the way home) and i was looking at the dell laptops (cuz that’s what i have) and i’m so. mad. all of their touch pads have the touch area extended OVER. THE. MOUSE. KEYS. WTF. I HATE THAT SO MUCH. AND THAT WAS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MADE ME PICK A DELL 7 YEARS AGO. i need separate keys that aren’t part of the touch pad. that’s basically priority number one for me it irks me so bad. and i can’t even go with any alienware stuff cuz it’s by dell and they all have that same thing.

right now i’m looking at one of the acer gaming laptops. but it’s $2k. so that’s not going to be happening any time soon, if ever.

i just want a laptop that can handle my obsessive tabbing without dying the second i open something else and has separate keys on the touch pad. WHY IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK.

RIP Gaming Laptop :’(

Well, my laptop has met its nemesis... a cracked hinge on its screen. It still WORKS, I guess but I don’t have the room for a full monitor for it. I live with my parents and there is no room for a desk here. I gotta save up for a new laptop. Luckily I can borrow someone’s TV to get the files off of it at some point but I won’t be able to make any new content for a while...

I have a Mac but it’s an Air, so there’s not enough HD space for boot camp. I can at least still PLAY Sims 2 if I can find Mac friendly content. There are ways to make S3PE work on a Mac so I can still make SIMS 3 content, I guess. I have Blender so I can at least model stuff. My old PC was giving me issues with Sims 2 anyway, as I’d said. I’m very nervous about now having to play on Windows 10...

I guess it’s also a good thing. My gaming laptop was obsolete as it was. It wasn’t going to run anything new. I was saving up for an XBOX but there’s no point now if I have to buy a new computer.

I’m going to be going through my external hard drive backups and releasing stuff I have saved. I have some Fallout-themed items I was going to release together around the time of FO4.

Why does my computer insist on freezing so much. It’s summer. Shouldn’t it be overheating?

Computer Rant

My laptop just finished updating after three hours. Three hours! I really think updates should be optional not “I’m going to kick you off on an update you don’t even want.” Laptops should not hold lives hostage.

I really need a new laptop...
