Day 1
So i dont really know how this whole tumblr thing works, but im gunna give it a try.
i was talking to my cousin yesterday about my views and opinions on the world, after about an hour of me going on and on about how we have to be the change we want to see in the world (excellent quote thanks Gandhi), my cousin simply replied, "i agree with some of what you've said, but what good is just telling me? You need to get your views out there and you need to tell more people, start a blog or something!"
so i took his advice and here i am!
i guess you'd want some background info, so i am a 17 year old male, living in Southampton, England. i have had a very easy life so far in a very middle class up bringing, going to middle class schools and just being pretty middle class in general. Money has never been a problem for me, in fact nothing ever has. I've never had to worry about anything. however recently I've realised that i can't just go on living with ignorance to the suffering and hunger in the world. This hunger i speak of isn't just hunger in the sense of food, (although there is a lot of that) but hunger for the basic needs of life. Hunger for education, equal rights, work, clean water, medicine, just a very real hunger for all of the basic amenities we in the Western world all take for granted.
As well as this, the ignorance i speak of about isn't ignorance by the exact definition, (a lack of knowledge or information- Oxford Dictionary), but ignorance in the way that we all know people are going hungry, we all know there isn't clean water and that, aids, sexism, racism and a whole host of other things, exist. I mean how can we not know when constantly on television we see adverts or in the street someone with a donation pot etc.
However the ignorance that so many of us are guilty of having is the type where we know all these things exist, we want to do something about it, but we just don't. We don't take that step to pick up the phone and donate or to give some money in a donation pot. The reasons behind why we don't? Well only you know that. But what i know is that we all want to, i strongly believe that human nature is to be good, that when we see a homeless person we all want to buy them food, when we seen an advert for malaria in the developing world we all want to donate money to the cause. Some may say we want to do these things out of pity but i disagree. I think we want to do these things because of the most beautiful human emotion, the great urge and need to CARE for one and other. I might be blissfully naive to think this but i strongly believe that even the worst people to have ever walked this earth still had some good in them, but this good became corrupted by some external, environmental factors (a topic i will get onto another time).
It is this natural righteousness we all posses which i aim to exploit. Not exploitation in a bad or unjust way but in the sense of pushing you, pushing myself, pushing the world. To take that final step and help someone who needs it. Donate money to a charity, volunteer at a homeless shelter. Just take that step to reduce how shit the world is and to increase the universal happiness that we all deserve to have.
I believe there are only SIX things we all need and deserve in life:
A sufficient amount of food for our biological needs.
Access to clean drinking water.
Access to medical care when needed.
A roof over our heads.
An education.
The love and respect of those around us.
If we all come together, we can attempt to help provide and maybe achieve these six things ourselves.
I know I am not alone with these opinions,
so lets come together and Talk About World Change.
