Posted @withregram • @lilahbysleep 🤍Attachment🤍 Before we can talk about sleep, behavior, eating, etc we need to first understand attachment and the importance of it. Attachment is a child’s greatest need. According to Dr. Gordon Nuefeld, there are six stages of attachment that a child goes through with their attachment figures. As our little ones grow, so does their way of attaching to us. It is so important for us to understand our children’s attachment needs as they grow in order to show up and nurture our attachment with them. I have broken down the first four stages of Neufeld’s six phases of attachment and have provided what they look like in real life. Dr. Deborah McNamara describes the six stages as follows: “Neufeld’s Six Sequential Phases of Attachment detail how attachment ideally unfolds over the first six years of life. The more a child can keep their attachments close, the greater the fuel for their growth into separate, adaptive, and social beings. Although children are born with the capacity for relationship, their attachment instincts need to be activated by consistent and predictable care.” What stage of attachment is your little one in?
