Despite what fandom may think, I really liked the first season of Picard. Nevermind its obvious... "similarities" to Mass Effect 1, I still very much enjoyed it! And while later seasons were fun they lost that spark the first one had. They had something very interesting in hand with the romulan plots, and that was all given up in favour of... what? More senseless borg uses, a frankly nothingburger plot with a picard ancestor, changeling demonization (I'm not saying they were right in all of their ploys, I'm just saying it felt like victimblaming in that scenario), a secret son and nostalgiabait. They had a very good chance to further develop a part of trek they'd spent years doing nothing with, and I was ALL for it! And then... nothing. I wanted to know how the romulans reorganized, how a second massive diaspora affected their culture and workings. Instead, they forgot the romulans and left it all to "yeah a thousand years later they decided to unify with the romulans again". Very disappointing. Oh, and, while I did think worf/troi had its appeal, NO MENTIONS AT ALL TO JADZIA was a pretty hurtful thing to do, especially when it was so significant to worf's (and many others') character. I mean gdi she was his wife! They were trying for a child! They were family! They faced life and death together! Not a single mention to it after years of not meeting the enterprise folks feels like erasure.
