hate to break it to this anon but, brud being dumb is actually canon- like he canonically survived being bitten by simon bc his brain is so small that simon couldn't damage it, and there's also a drawing of wenda yelling at brud "why are you so dumb"
that being said i don't think nyanko had like. actively ableist intentions or anything, i think he just didn't know better esp considering he's a teen (not excusing/defending ofc-)
fwiw nyanko did apparently plan to make brud not stupid and get rid of his crossed eyes in the cancelled sprunki remaster (at least according to the wiki) but afaik he hasn't said anything else abt brud since then so. make of it what you will ig
