GAH! I ADORE THIS BLOG, SPECIFICALLY THE MJ SEGMENTS--all of it makes me feel giddy, thank you. Any-way, I was wondering how you feel about the This Is It press conference and the tour rehearsals (just in general the This Is It Era)! First time watching the press conference; I was so, so freaking happy but then I find out Randy Phillips hit and yelled at MJ to get him to go??? And don't get me started on the rehearsals! Each and every new tidbit I hear just zaps the enthusiasm I felt when I first heard of it (though some stuff I hear is just blatantly wrong but really, really disheartening--I refuse to ever believe he was force-fed, ESPECIALLY FROM A SHIT SOURCE LIKE THE MIRROR, spouting stuff like that and having the gull to refer to him as JACKO in the next frickin paragraph). So I really wanted to know your thoughts on it. Thank you for your time.
Aww thank you! My blog is kinda just whatever interests me lol. But I am a huge fan of MJ so I post about him pretty often. I mostly just post fandom stuff I’m into and pieces of my writing and whatnot, but glad you like my blog!
While I agree with you on the tabloid aspect of This Is It, I do think Michael was incredibly overworked and taken advantage of. I mean, the O2 arena was selling far over what Michael agreed to do because of ticket demand, for one.
For Michael, I think he wanted This Is It to be yknow, the most amazing tour ever. He put so much thought into it and it’s so heartbreaking he never got to perform it, but at the same time, there is so much suspiciousness around this whole thing from AEG and the people they hired to be around Michael at that time. Conrad Murray, Karen Faye… I think about how Karen’s testimony helped AEG in the wrongful death lawsuit a lot. It’s just incredibly suspicious and fucked up. I do think Michael was murdered by people in the industry for his catalogue and estate, but that’s another topic.
I also think that the subsequent film that was made was just put out there for money. I mean the Jackson family never supported it being released and it was boycotted by fans alike. MJ’s nephews even went to court to try and stop the release.
Idk.. my thoughts boil down to the fact that AEG was completely responsible for Michael’s death and they should have never won against the Jackson family. They neglected and took advantage of him, they hired people that were complicit in him being euthanized like a dog, so I guess ultimately I wish Michael had never attempted to tour again… but idk if that would have saved his life. I think ultimately, they would have found a way to kill him. If not by hiring a fraud doctor to drug him, it would have been by some other means. My feelings on This Is It are forever conjoined with my feelings on his death.
