The difference is that Mercedes are appealing George's penalties because they directly affected George's race result. McLaren aren't appealing oscar's penalty. They're appealing the decision on Gasly's appeal.

Which is a very important distinction because after their fearlessly incompetent CEO helpfully informed the world that oscar was, in fact, speeding in the pit lane, that avenue is pretty much dead.

You can't exactly argue, "Our driver didn't do it," when your own boss has already gone on air saying, "Everyone else is a victim of some issue, but oscar did actually do it."

So the only route left to getting that P4 back is essentially: "Okay, but what if the FIA were wrong about the guy who pushed us down to P5?"

Anyone else trapped in the void between life experiences where you've missed various, often very shitty but very key, steps and now you feel like you kinda need to get those experiences but everyone around you has moved on to the better more reasonable mature options you know are more reasonable and mature and what you Should Pursue but the big vacuous pit in your core where the precursor experiences should go makes shouldering the downsides to those more stable mature options just horrific and untenable?
