My name is Noemie, I am a Canadian student in Montreal and I am writing to you because I am a part of the LGBT+ community and there is something I want you to know. Representation matters. As a bisexual girl, there is a lot of things that I had to accept that are not acceptable like the lack of representation the bisexuals get in TV shows and movies, books and more. When I first realized I was bisexual, I was 19 year old and lived my life up until that point knowing something was off, but not being able to put my finger on it because, hell, I did not even know what a bisexual was. But after my second year in the city of Montreal, I met all kinds of different people and some of them were bisexual, pansexual and even more. Diversity is wonderful and I was finally able to understand who I was and stop wondering what was wrong with me. Because nothing was, right? The thing is, something was still wrong. Not with me, but with the representation my community was getting. Which was inexistent. The first bi character I faced was in the show The 100. I was 20. But I felt like it was one of the best days of my life because the bi community was getting a strong representative, a female one on top of that, in one of the nicest shows that was on Netflix at that moment. That brings me back to my main topic, which is REPRESENTATION MATTERS. Where am I going with all that, you wonder. Well, I now want to talk about Riverdale. Which is one of the best shows on Netflix right now. More specifically, I want to talk about the character of Jughead. I love the actor who plays him, by the way, and I love the way he tries to defend his character even more. The Aromantic/Asexual community is as important as any other element of the LGBT+ community, and they deserve representation as much as any other community. Jughead is aromantic and asexual. And if it needs to be repeated: Jughead is CANONICALLY aroace. Please, for the love of all good things in this world, keep it that way. It’s really not that complicated, you did it for Raphael in Sadowhunters. You will change the life of so many persons and give visibility to an identity that is valid, but disregarded and invalidated way too often. Please and thank you, Noemie Lalande
