I haven’t been on in awhile which I’m planning to change. But I interrupt my usual content with this message.
I’ve been seeing posts from people saying they lived near one of the big cities having protests so they could go and help out. I just wanted to say, as someone who lives in one of those cities, that you can help. I don’t just mean donating and spreading information I mean be actively involved from where you are.
On social media you’ll see a lot of flyers about marches, look at who’s organizing, look them up and make sure your values match and they a trustworthy, find contact info (most use signal), offer your help. They need
-someone to watch scanners for them while they are out protesting (if you cant listen then usually there’s accounts on Twitter that man scanners 24/7 and you sit there and update it every minute) and pass on relevant information. Where are the police, is any part of the protest violent, are they blocking off roads they need etc
-research. They need research on what other protesters are doing that’s working, are there other organizations or events they could partner with to make theirs bigger, is there something they want to do but they don’t know how yet? Street medic information if one of them gets mildly hurt and needs advice
-they need someone that is not at their protest as a contact, many times their families don’t know they are out there. If they all get arrested or pulled off the street into a van the word needs to be spread, if one of them gets hurt and you need to contact a March medic or someone else to get a medic, you will be the one they all tell when they are safe.
Plus anything else that specific organization needs you to do.
You can help from another state, all kinds of support is needed. Especially with the threat and reality of federal troops going into cities if they are not there already
