In this week's Basic Brief, Republicans' block the Jan 6 committee, Sanders wants a Pentagon audit, UBI pilots, Biden's Tulsa speech, Texas
🥣THE BASIC BRIEF – JUNE 4TH, 2021🥣
In early March, our own writer James Beins dove into the growing polarity of US Politics writing. “This begs the question, is the duopoly truly as bad as we think? Is the dysfunction and polarization remarkable or is it just the perception of our time? As it turns out…it really is that bad.” If it was bad in March it hasn’t gotten better by June. In this week’s Basic Brief, we’ll look at Senate Republicans blocking a bipartisan commission into the events of January 6th as well as Democrats in Texas walking out to prevent a bill with sweeping restrictions on voting.
An important story in this week’s Basic Brief was Biden visiting Tulsa as Ahmed Baba writes, “Today, Joe Biden became the first president in American history to visit Greenwood to commemorate the Tulsa Massacre. Biden met privately with the victims of the massacre and their descendants, delivered a speech highlighting the brutality of the massacre, and announced new actions his administration is taking.” President Joe Biden said, “Only with truth can come healing and justice and repair.” I’d like to start this piece by discussing that truth.
We continue to highlight stories about UBI getting put into action. This time in Ireland. As well as how the stimulus checks were such a key aspect in relieving hardship for people. If one-time checks could mean so much then it indicates UBI would be that much more potent.

By James Beins: It’s common for people to believe their lived time period is the worst, their generation the best, or that some other aspect of their contemporary temporal situation is extraordinary. This begs the question, is the duopoly truly as bad as we think? Is the dysfunction and polarization remarkable or is it just the perception of our time? As it turns out…it really is that bad.
