Context Alters Meaning
5 contradictory public situations/environments
For the context altering meaning assignment I chose to use an artwork and I used my job as the environment. For the contradictory situations I wanted to place the work in odd areas which can sometimes be in the way. For example, I placed it in front of the elevator which is impossible because we use the elevators non stop and I also placed it on top of the bikes and Foosball table which makes them inoperable. I also really like the image where I made the artwork seem as if it was in its own office space.
For the associative areas I wanted to place the work in different areas that could also work for displaying art. Doing this assignment helped me realize that some “contradictory” areas can actually be associative. They both work hand in hand together and it was interesting to see. My favorite example of this is the painting on the staircase. It is placed in a way that it does not disturb so it is associative but if I would’ve placed it a little further towards the middle it would’ve been contradictory. I also had fun finding different areas to photograph. I was able to find an area that made the painting neon which was also very interesting.
