“James.” Sirius was watching Lily, naturally, when he raised his head. Fuck, he hadn’t called anyone. Since the moment of impact, he had thought of nothing else than getting Lily out safely, getting her out alive.
His hand slid from hers as he stood, rounding the bed to meet Sirius, arms wrapping around his shoulders. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I don’t know—”
“It wasn’t your—” Sirius pulled back, his hands on either side of James’ face, “The other driver was drunk. It wasn’t your fault.”
He broke then, his head dropping onto Sirius shoulder, the exhaustion rattling his body. Sirius kept him steady, a hand on the back of his neck, allowing James to soak through the t-shirt he wore in silence.
