you should control my entire life
I cannot stand how religious people on both political sides are taking the current tragedies as "Signs of G-d" as if these aren't actual people, but political pawns in their agendas.
The religious right keeps using this as a sign that liberals changing Texas over to more renewable energy sources angered G-d's plan for people in Texas. This is proof that when you stray from tradition and conservative views then you'll see his wrath or something. Cause of course we all know that switching from coal to wind power is such a slippery slope. What's next? Economic equality? Medical autonomy? Reshaping our country to reduce, and eventually eliminate, systemic oppression??
Yet the religious left is doing the same thing. My democratic, black family calls our family and friends in Texas to make sure they're okay then says this is the price Texas has to pay the very next second. This is G-d's wrath for voting for Trump in the last election. Sure it went blue for a while showing just how many people there are out there who want to see things better, but oh well yall went red now you can freeze to death.
It's wild to me that both sides can follow the same religion that both sides keep claiming is the truth and the best way to improve the world, yet both sides just argue back and forth about who pissed of the dude upstairs more instead of actually helping the people suffering because of this storm. One of the main lessons from the bible is to give to those in need and somehow both sides fucked that up.
I don't know if this is a general Christian thing or specific to denominations or locations. I can only speak as a southern ex-baptist/ex-nondenominational christian, but it makes the whole religion seem more and more performical, like some moral holy-than-thou discourse that will effect millions of lives. Just this constant "See im not suffering which proves I'm the better christian 😌" that fails to help anyone. It's a lot easier to be "in the world not of the world" when the world isn't trying to kill you
do you even like me if you don't want to be my dm and run my life?
deciding when and where you use me sounds hard
thats going to be your responsibility?
