Nobody likes to be controlled or told what to do, especially for an entire day. When you wake up every day you should feel like you have a choice about how the day will be. People work more than they do any other single thing in the world, so I get it, you’re a very busy person.
It’s great to be busy, but not at the expense of enslaving yourself. By not making time for yourself, you fall into the trap of allowing your day to dictate to you. The day is telling you, “I’m not going to make time for you today, I want you focus on everything, but you.” This means, get the children ready for school, put in your hours at work, go home, clean the house, cook, help certain friends and do some other stuff that has nothing to do with your personal development or the improvement of your health.
Say this to your day, “I am making time for myself today and that’s that!” In order to grow mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically and financially you must take time for you. Work on you every day. This is so important because you are the center of your world and without you being at the top of your game, everything and everyone else around you suffers. It’s impossible to be the best parent, the productive employee or employer or the best spouse you can be if you are unhealthy, mentally drained, physically tired or emotionally broken. So you see daily time for yourself is not only for you, I know you’re not selfish.
Carve out 30 minutes per day to yourself as a start. Use this time to do anything that will cause you to grow and progress towards becoming a better version of yourself. ‘Me time’ suggestions:
Read a book, exercise, study, learn something new, meditate to calm your mind, practice, train and rehearse to get better, write out your plans, goals, write a book or simply just sit in a dark, quiet room alone and close your eyes.
You should increase this time as you go (I spend more than 50% of my day working on myself).
