Alright. I wasn’t gonna say nothin here since it happened on Twitter, but I’m seeing some really strange takes and I just gotta weigh in.
1) I don’t think it’s appropriate for an audience who could never relate to a harm to police the way someone is supposed to react/reflect on potential harm done. I say this as a white american phan. When someone says that they’ve been hurt by racism/xenophobia I sit my ass down and listen. Ideally, none of us want people to be hurt. So ideally, we want to listen and learn about how we can prevent any harm going forward, not dictate what should and shouldn’t be harmful.
2) From what I understand, and again I’m not a part of the harmed party so maybe I’m off base, but the issue isn’t necessarily the joke Dan made. His frustration and need to joke as a coping mechanism is understandable! The issue is that his platform requires a certain level of responsibility where leaving it at “the government said no homo” does not reflect the same sentiment of “we experienced homophobia from some governments and we know we have so many lgbtq+ supporters in Asia but unfortunately we would not be able to visit you without shows in those countries.” The original comment opened the doors for a lot of xenophobia and racism which white phannies then participated in, generalizing the whole of Asia as a way to comfort/joke back with Dan. I don’t think the comment was inherently harmful, but it just did not fully address the situation at hand. Especially when we’re talking about how their inability to go to a few countries kept them out from ALL of Asia. It wasn’t EVERY government that had an issue. Just enough to mean that they couldn’t get enough shows. That’s important info too.
3) Dan has every right to be hurt and frustrated over this. Again, I just highly doubt that the phans from these countries need white american phans explaining to them why Dan would be so upset and why they should not complain. They live this experience every day. I’m pretty sure they know why he’d be upset. And just because he is upset doesn’t mean they can’t say “hey actually the way you addressed this could have been better please elaborate.”
4) No one is “cancelling” Dan. This was a learning experience. We should be thanking people for teaching us about how to be better allies.
5) If anyone vehemently disagrees with me I will always take respectful criticism, or if someone wants to correct me on anything please please do :)
I can't be the only one on tumblr uncomfortable with the whole fyosus thing..
Hello, I wanted to point out that the skintone you used was inaccurate and not as dark as Becky is in Wordgirl. I understand these are very desaturate colors, so it might of been an accident but while you can use desaturated coloring you need to keep the same value as the original skin tone (and it looks ashy) I doubt this was intentional but please fix your colors and refrain from doing this in the future. Thank you for your time.
Oh my god... excuse me?
...well this was bound to happen at some point! Fun fact these are not hand picked I used real saturated/dark colors and then turned down the opacity...when resorted to their original no transparency forms they're much more accurate.
Now I hate to show my art process since it's messy and frankly embarrassing but here we go
Here's the before:
Here's the after:
Its a simple drag of the opacity threshold I was just going for a soft light look with these colors so I wouldn’t have to focus on making them on model, so yes they're not 100% accurate but she's definitely not made lighter. I do this for Miss Power as well.
Also I would never whitewash her and I've never drawn her that way either. She was one of my few brown girl reps growing up, it was so wonderful seeing someone who looked like me on tv. It's heartbreaking to be accused this way.
Erm and... 'ashy'?? I mean. Maybe I can understand it feeling that way to you but these are accurate colors done for me by the opacity slider and basic color theory really. All colors are lighter not just her skin. But thanks for the concern I guess..?
I'm sorry if the color style isn't your taste but the second part will be done the same way it saves time. You are free to not check it out when I post it if it upsets you.
Lastly, in case there's some misunderstanding with color theory I'll include what you've requested so you understand why her skin is this shade:
As you can see I've used the original full opacity shade and it looks extremely strange. Everything else is light desaturated and pastel while her skin is not. This requires color adjustment, in order to make it fit in it needs to be the same as the rest! That's a basic application of color theory.
If you need further explanation I'd be happy to provide it just please don't point fingers and be so quick to call my art 'inaccurate' next time.
Controversial opinion
Andrew Garfield's spiderman is the best spiderman. Tom Holland is second in the ranks.
Christian behaviour
Controversial topic warning.
Are there any common Christian behaviours that you think Christians should stop doing (or change the way they do them)?
*WARNING* Long rant on a controversial topic
I need to get this off my chest.
I received a letter from the library board tonight and can I say that I am fully fed up with all this vaccine nonsense! Listen. I do not care if YOU decide to get it. That is YOUR choice and YOUR business. What I DO care and what makes me angry is the fact that people who decide not to get it, people such as myself, are guilted into getting it, or made to feel like they’re a disgusting human being for not wanting to put a soup of who knows what into their body. Do you want to know the reasons I don’t want to get it? Because I’ve researched this thing and there has been concern that it causes sterility in females (Remember the HPV shot doctors tried to force on us 90s babies? My mom put her foot down thank God). You’ll want to say “Well that hasn’t been proven” and you’re right, it hasn’t, but it also hasn’t been proven to NOT cause that. I don’t know about you, but I want/hope to have children some day and if it turned out that I was infertile, I don’t want to look back and wonder: “If I hadn’t taken the vaccine, would I be able to get pregnant?” I don’t want that possibility. I’ve also heard from other women my age that, after taking it and being otherwise healthy, they have developed severe menstruation symptoms/gynecological issues and I, a woman with a seemingly healthy and regular menstrual cycle, personally don’t want to chance anything that would hurt that. And the rashes and the blood clots and the instances of people dying from “unknown” causes days after getting jabbed. And did you know that is *NOT* FDA-approved? I DON’T WANT TO TAKE IT AND I DON’T WANT TO BE GUILT TRIPPED FOR NOT TAKING IT. My medical history is absolutely none of your business, nor is yours mine and I don’t understand why we can’t leave it at that. I’m so tired of this and being trashed and looked down upon for not getting a stupid shot. This is America!! So far we’re still a free country! Why can’t we all just mind our business instead of forcing our political views down the other person’s throat? Whatever happened to respect and healthy debates? I just want to be looked at as a human being, not a ‘vaxxed or un-vaxxed individual’. Hopefully I got my point across clearly and civilly. I don’t mean to make anyone feel funny, I just needed to get this out. Thank you for putting up with/coming to listening to my rant.❤️
I saw a TikTok unironically gate keeping the story of Moses. Like what? They claimed that it’s because he Jewish people have been through so much (absolutely true) and that Christians can’t take that story because it’s cultural appropriation.
Ok. No. Three major religions use books and stories from that time (Judaism, Islam, and Christianity) and we all branch from those histories. (Also Jesus was a Jew. We aren’t taking that away from you?? And your religion is completely valid?? Why do you care what we believe)
Also I’ve never seen someone gate keep a part of history. Literally what? 😂
To be clear, this is personal opinions. I do not generalize this to all Jews, it was just this one person and I wanted to talk about it because im worried people actually think this way.
All religions are valid. My personal religious view is that the Big three (Christianity Judaism Islam) will get you to heaven. And that there is no one set way to get to heaven because we all worship God differently, thus there are as many ways to heaven as there are people on Earth.
Please don’t at me for this.
Also let’s not gate keep religion
