sum rough thoughts on episode 1 of SANDA (might do these for every episode, might not, idk yet):

very big fan of the artstyle! it already looked great in the manga & i had high expectations from the trailers, but it still looks pretty nice!

i like this specific image of fuyumura. i think i just like fuyumura's design in general, half the time she looks fucking terrifying & the other half of the time she looks so dumb

the opening & ending sequence r really cool & i like em a lot

really like the music they had in the first episode, outside of the intro & outro

i will say that the pacing felt a little off in the beginning, but i thought it definitely got better later on

-main colour is green (ooshibu is like a more blueish green but still)

-old af (I think the grinch is meant to be old I can't remember)

-some kind of hatred towards santa/christmas

-idk they kinda make the same face in these images

ooshibu is 100% designed after the grinch in some way I refuse to think otherwise

there's an upcoming techno album & a bluegrass one in the works with billy strings which would take us to 29 albums. lowkey id love to see them return to the surf/garage rock sound of willoughbys beach & 12 bar bruise for a 30th, it'd be cool to see just how far they've come since then

sanda ending got me fucked up, i pray for a season 2 the show was so good. i realise how little I have ever drawn these characters despite how much I love them so take this ugly ass fuyumura sketch

couple final closing thoughts (very unsorted):

most of my issues from way back in the first episode were very much alleviated

it is a crime that we don't have the soundtrack officially released (outside of the opening & credits), the tracks do a great job at selling the unnerving, dystopian setting for the show

i had heard about this series through some tiktok slop video & it talked about the anime's release, but I was so weirdly captivated by the premise that I picked up the manga & started reading in preparation for the anime. shout out to tiktok slop creator #3,406,287 for introducing me to peak i did not ever think i'd get invested in the dystopian santa claus coming-of-age battle shonen but here we are

the animation quality did dip slightly as episodes went on but this is also pretty standard for a lot of anime, it's hard to keep it super consistent 24/7 but science saru did a damn good job

pray there is a god out there & if they're real they'll greenlight sanda season 2
