Bless this. Thought about this sort of thing a lot since joining the FE:F fandom, and these posts make me feel less alone in my judgement. Especially in the case of Leokumi, since both characters have distinct personalities that work alongside and against one another in so many multifaceted ways, it becomes so much more obvious when someone … how to say this.. sees the characters as a product of their relationship, as opposed to the other way around
Yeah, and this is sadly a universal phenomenon in fandom culture. I mean, I can understand having favourite characters act out fetishes, which may or may not include extreme dom/sub contexts in whatever constellation that’s preferred. But most people tend to either forget or deliberately overlook the fact that bedroom preferance =/= actual personality, at least not to the extent it’s presented. Like even if Leon or Takumi prefered bottoming, it should not immediately erase their very complex personalities only to be replaced with your standard teary-eyed uke formula. If you really have to ignore most of a character’s personality traits before you can ever imagine them bottoming/topping, you are not actually writing a character, just a prop. It’s like mashing action figures together and shouting “Look, they are fucking!”.
