Not sure if the anon was joking about more puppets, but there is a strong possibility... patents expire after twenty years, meaning that in the middle of the 2000s, there could be an explosion of knock-offs, spins and variants on Mari and Charlie with how popular they are. Not Marionette and Lottie, those are registered characters, but their models. Even with differences like size, shape and such, they'd belong to the Puppet model family. Same with every other animatronic, really.

That could happen. O.O Unless they managed to get ahold of the whole line. They might be able to get a copywrite over specific themes when paired with the puppet name- such as the trademark tear-marks, stripes, and smiles. At least, if someone started using a puppet named X Puppet with those attributes, Foxy's could probably reach out about it.

But that's assuming the future. Right now, Foxy's doesn't have that much of an iron fist- especially when it involves the mixed history with Freddy's- but I could imagine that in the coming years, and especially after the Pizzaplex, Mike and Fritz'll get a little more... protective with their assumed properties.

...Or, at least, there's probably not going to be a Glamrock Puppet unless Wight suddenly drops a huge payday while spontaneously winning Mari over.

Art, is it true that is illegal to receive money for fanart and fanfics? So this would mean that every artist here that gain comissions for drawing fanart are doing illegal things?

Disclaimer: not an expert, just someone who has gained experience from five years of copyright chaos in fandom.

As far as I understand, artists can do this for non-commercial profit. So if an artist is commissioned to make one piece of fanart for a specific person, that’s legal (but the person musn’t then distribute that fanwork to a wider audience for profit, because that’s making money from someone else’s intellectual property).  This is because it’s on a small scale where both parties understand that the work does not belong wholly to the artist, other than their take on the source content.

By the same logic, publishing fanfiction for money is only legal if you have been given certain permissions by the creators. I also believe that if someone were selling Sailor Moon fanart as prints on somewhere like Redbubble, they would be liable to persecution for copyright violations, although under current European law there is quite a lot of leeway and such persecutions are only made in the case of the artist laying complete claim to the content source.

If anyone knows better than me, please add your bit.

Kinda weird question but any of my followers know how to figure out if something is under copywriter or if that expired and it's now public domain? I wrote a parody of the book Good Night Moon and I've started illustrating it but idk if I can publish it b/c I don't wanna get sued....
