I know nothing about Garrett Nosurname except that he is an offputting(?) manlet playable in several games about stealing things. Please explain him to me so I can read your response when I wake up like the morning newspaper.
HI THANK YOU FOR ASKING
I'm not sorry about how much I've typed
Garrett nosurname is the protagonist and player character of the Thief franchise, which is a series of imsim stealth first person looters. Classic Thief is three games (the dark project, the metal age, and deadly shadows) and there is a reboot generally referred to as Thief 2014. Garrett nosurname from the classic games is a very different character from Garrett from the reboot, so the tiny fandom tends to treat them as such, calling Classic Garrett Sr and Reboot Garrett Jr
Sr is a sarcastic, grouchy, noir-ish antihero who steals shit because he has to pay his godamn rent. He was an orphan raised to be a member of a secret faction of record keepers and prophecy readers, but he ditched them for a life of crime because he couldnt stand their impartialism and restrictions. He keeps getting roped into saving the world against his will. Jaded guy who is continually dissapointed by the world. Causes problems by not thinking things through and just taking the job with the biggest payout. He's confident, world weary, standoffish, and done with everyones shit. He seems like he's been forced into being only out for himself, but he can't be because he cares too much, and he's bitter about it. Doesn't have many friends because he can't keep his smart little tongue in his head and tells everybody exactly what he thinks of them and it's hilarious. I feel like this discription doesnt do justice to what a nuanced and interesting character he is, or what a delight he is to play as. Voiced by Stephen Russell, if that helps you picture him better
You can tell if its art of Garrett Sr if he's wearing a big cloak, you can see some of the skin on his arms, or his right eye is green and mechanical
Garrett Jr is a skittish emo man who doesnt seem to be able to get along with anyone out of pure social awkwardness. We have less info on his backstory, but since the old factions no longer exist in his time, we assume he was just on his own. He's quiet, cagey, and only ever seems to make jokes to himself. Seems younger than Sr and has a lost sort of vibe to him. Takes himself a bit too seriously so it's amusing to poke fun at him. The reboot is generally reguarded as a worse game than the classic series, so that's also probably why he gets some shit. But he's canonically 5'5 and he paints his nails black so I like him. He's like a distrustful feral cat that won't come out from under your house until you leave a silver spoon or something for him to grab
You can tell if its art of Garrett Jr if he's wearing a stupid corset, too much eyeliner, a face mask, or his right eye is blue and glowy (because he's sans undertale)
Both of them are designed to make you play stealthy i.e: they're tiny and pushovers in a fight. Sr has a sword but he's not good with it. They're cowards. Both of them are strong believers in the philosophy of 'if it sucks, hit da bricks'. In the climactic cutscene of the third game Garrett just leaves mid-villain speech because he has had Enough (to be fair, these are worlds of gods, monsters, and magic, and Garrett is just some regular guy hiding in a shadow.) Totally incurious unless they think there's profit to be made. Theyre selfish little klepto men with a big 'greed' flaw written right across their foreheads, but theyre both pacifists at heart and given the choice would never hurt a fly.
I love them both a whole lot I'm super sorry about spamming the dashboard with my hyperfixation
In conclusion
Speaking of these games if you've ever wanted to relive something as scary as the Ocean House Hotel in not-a-horror game, then the Shalebridge Cradle mission in thief 3 is about the only equal that I think exists
