do you hear BRUISES BY LEWIS CAPALDI playing? oh, that must be CORINNE “CORI” SOMERS breezing by. i don’t know if you recognize them, but they look like KIANA MADEIRA to me. i heard that SHE has been in town for THREE YEARS, which is crazy considering they are 31 years old. yeah, they live over on ELECTRIC AVENUE, and i heard that they work as a WAITRESS at SHIRLEY'S DINER ( IN TOWN ). i love that they remind me of THE CLOYING SMELL OF CIGARETTE SMOKE, A SUCKER PUNCH TO THE GUT, THE BITE OF COLD AIR AGAINST EXPOSED SKIN, but … ugh, their playlist is so weird. why is/are GO YOUR OWN WAY, UPTOWN GIRL, HIGH HORSE, + SECRET in the queue?
details: (tw parental death, fire tw, foster care tw)
corinne somers was born and raised in cider point and for the first few years of her life, everything was beautiful and perfect, boring even. it was the kind of childhood any child could've asked for.
but life always has a way of making you suffer. when corinne was 12, her parents were killed in a house fire while she was at sleep away camp. corinne had no family who was willing to take over caring for her, so she entered into foster care.
years in care dimmed her light. corinne went from a sunshiney child to a brittle teenager with a sharp tongue who lashed out at anyone who got too close.
her high school sweetheart was a safe place; he tempered her. so, when it was time to apply to colleges, it made perfect sense to follow him.
for a while, they were happy. they'd even managed to get engaged and were planning their futures together, but then, corinne disappeared.
she'd returned to cider point without warning.
she's been here for 3 years now and it almost seems as if she's destined to be forever trapped in this life where happiness dies.
The hallway shook around them, the consistent rumble of thunder crawling under Kitra’s skin like a constant, low shiver. Kitra never feared inclimate weather, she was the type to stand and stare at any storm, shaking her fist at mother nature with irreverence and frustration. She would not show any weakness, but now, the hallways of A9 her frown dipped and twitched at each rattle that rang through the corridor, making the windows warble in pain.
She walked alongside Corinne, eyes dead ahead, as they went to turn in the preliminary mission reports and ship conditions given to them by Zero Three. Through the plastic windows Kitra could see sheets of rain, but all else behind it was obstructed. She could not tell what was the deep purple of thunderheads and what was the slick slate of the cliffs.
At a particularly frightening clap of thunder she paused, and then the lights turned off. As her eyes adjusted to the light she looked to Corinne.

"Before you say anything," Corinne said as she slid the bundle of fur from the inner pocket of her coat, "I found it and I'm keeping it." The kitten was tiny, probably no more than a few weeks older if Cori had to hazard a guess, and looked pathetic. She'd found the black and white cat huddled between two trash cans on her way back from the Christmas Festival and couldn't help herself. Cori was sure that if she'd left it there, it would've probably starved. Or frozen. So, really, she was doing a good thing even if she was pretty sure that Maria wouldn't agree. "It'll stay in my room and you'll never have to even acknowledge it." She wasn't asking for permission; she knew that she should since she was technically a guest here, but Cori had never really been the asking for permission type. "And I've already got it everything it needs."
