vat7k people, I think we should get weirder with the "alchemy" part of our alchemist story. what about immortality? turning lead to gold? creating artificial life?

I know it's because varian is a capital s Scientist and tangled is set in a time where all of this wouldn't be considered serious science anymore, but! what about demanitus, what was he up to, or his pupils? what about ulla? what about aaaall those books in the library? there has to be some shady stuff there. consider the possibilities!
