Welcome, CUIM Sports alumni!

Hello Alumni,

It has been quite a while, we imagine, since you have heard from us at Intramural Sports.  It is easy for us to get caught up in the intramural seasons, and with personnel changes, much can get lost in each new iteration of our program.  As the newest Director of Intramural Sports, even I have been caught up with learning the Cornell system and how to proceed with the implementation of our activities. Now that we have a better feel of how to move through the semesters, we want to turn our attention to a topic that we feel needs addressed.

You, our alumni.

As I remember my time with intramural sports at my undergraduate institution with the fondest of memories, I can easily remember working with some of the kindest, most energetic, and let’s face it… most outlandish personalities within the office and department.  I know there must be times where you think back to your involvement with intramural sports and reminisce about co-workers, professional staff, and the craziest (and fun) moments of intramural sports.  We know those memories of coming into Barton Hall, Teagle Pool, Jessup Fields, Helen Newman Hall, ANY place that supported our intramural sports program, and putting forth the highest quality of effort, ownership, and care to make sure activities ran as effortlessly as possible still ringing in your mind from time to time, and we want to recognize that.

Day in and day out, your work with intramural sports allowed thousands of participants to add quality to their Cornell experience through physical activity and social interaction. Many of you even participated in our programming, building intramural supervisor teams and forging bonds with your fellow supervisors during your time with our department.  The connections you have created with each other not only helped create an inviting atmosphere at the venues, but also outside of intramural sports and into your daily lives.  Your co-workers were often times also your best friends, and many of the memories you have created at Cornell involve those people.  It made the work in intramural sports meaningful, important, and most of all, fun.

The groundwork you all have laid for future supervisors, officials, and participants of intramural sports has not been forgotten.  It is still very much alive today, and though it may not look exactly like it did when you were with our program, it still thrives in the work and quality put forth by today’s staff.  This newsletter is our way of showing you that the care and love you put into our intramural sports program is stronger than ever.  

The next time you are on campus, or when the spirit moves you, get in touch with us.  Plant your feet on Jessup Fields, walk inside Barton Hall, and step into our office at Helen Newman Hall.  Stop by, call, or email and tell us your intramural stories, no matter how wild they are.  We all know it is part of the experience and tradition of Cornell University Intramural Sports.
